The Lamberts were my second neighborhood family when growing up. Dick, though four yrars my senior, was a major inspiration in my life from a distance. His work in India was always a model for service that my children remember. My decision to join the faculty at Loyola-Chicago U. for a 25 year stint was in part due to his quiet influence. My last face-to-face contact with Dick was in 1949 in the playground at our parish school (St. Thecla) when he pulled a larger, older student off of me telling him to pick on someone his own age. I suspect he did this for many other people and systems in different forms throughout his life. He will be missed.

I met Father Lambert several years ago and he blessed me and several friends while we visited with his sister in law, Patricia Lambert. I consider him a saint.
