Jim Hofman
May 14, 2007
Hello, this is Jim Hofman from Naperville. My dad is Bob Hofman, he grew up with the Capra family on Wallace Street. I heard about Mr. Capra's passing from Mr. Nick Spata while visiting the Redwoods Lounge before a Sox game last Friday.
My dad lives in Arizona now, and he asked me to extend his deepest sympathies. He went to St. Anthony's with George, and stopped at the Pub frequently over the years ... he asked that I specifically mention how much he enjoyed Rich's talents in the kitchen, especially the sausage sandwich. I also met Mr. Capra at the Pub a few times over the years while stopping in with my dad, he was always very kind to us.
My dad remarked to me what nice people the Capra family are, and the childhood friendships everyone on Wallace Street enjoyed, particularly with the Bedalow and Formella families.
Once again, both my dad and I are very sorry for your loss.

My deepest condolences to the entire Capra family. I'm sure that it's a comfort to know that Richie had many friends and was loved by all of them. I have many fond memories of heading back to the kitchen just to shoot the breeze with him before Ralphie and I were on our way to a Blackhawk or Sox game. He always shooed Ralph out and told him he'd close up so we wouldn't miss the National Anthem. I loved the look on his face when I got back from one of my work trips in Italy, and I brought him a bottle of Barolo. He patted the bottle, and said to me, "I'm going to save this for something special..." I have a bottle in the basement, and I'm going to open it this week, for someone special. Before that first sip, the toast will be "The Best, Richie! Say Hi to Ralphie for me..." God bless. -- Billy Mauck
