Milwaukee Brace 1963
Nancy Webster
July 28, 2016
I am saddened to hear of the passing of Dr Pellicore - I saw him every three months for almost 5 years. He treated my scoliosis in the early 60's; referred by my cousin Dr Stan Ruzich.
My visits with Dr Pellicore and wearing of my brace helped to form the person that I am today.
Although I was only 13, and starting high school, he treated me as an adult - he provided alternatives to the brace including surgery and advised my parents to let me be involved in the decision.
When I became frustrated that I was still wearing my brace after a year and asked him why he kept making up when I would get out of it, he took me to the x-ray room and showed my how he could tell if I'd stopped growing and each visit took me into the reading room - that meant so much to me; and helped change his practice - he did that for all his other patients.
Wearing a brace through high school was challenging, but Dr Pellicore made me feel good about myself - and always greeted me with "Hello Sunshine".
When I went to work in Hyde Park, I'd run into him at St Thomas for mass. And then I ran into him at my friend Laura's wedding to Bill Spizzirri - and have frequently asked Bill about his uncle.
I will always remember Dr Pellicore and will pray for him and his family.
