Ray Allen Obituary

Ray Lee Allen, 77, of Flossmoor, died Wednesday morning of congestive heart failure. Beloved husband of Angela. Loving father of Dr. Andrew Allen, Beth Allen Tiernan and Lynne Allen. Cherished grandfather of Lindsay, Cary, Katie, Raymond, Truman, Maisie and Reid. Dear brother of Harold T. Allen and Ferrel B. Allen. Born in Tuscola, Illinois. Ray attended Tuscola Community High School, after graduation he served in WW II with the Eighth Air Force, 490th Bomb Troop. His troops were responsible for dropping food to the Dutch during their liberation from Germany in 1945. Ray graduated from the University of Illinois in Urbana in 1950 and was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity. After starting his own business in Tuscola, Ray Allen Real Estate, he went on to work for the Federal Highway Administration as an appraiser. He retired in 1984 after 32 years with the Federal Government. Ray was a friendly man who never knew a stranger. Most who had the pleasure of knowing him will be thinking of one of his many jokes or stories. If they cant remember the joke, they will remember the delivery, a laugh and smile as he told the punch line. Visitation was Friday Oct. 10, from 2-8pm at Ryan Funeral Home 18022 Dixie Highway Homewood. Funeral was Sat. 9:30am prayers at the Funeral Home to Infant Jesus of Prague Church Mass 10am. Interment private. In Lieu of flower memorials to the American Heart Association. Funeral info 708-798-0331

Dear Allen Family:

Ray was so pround of you all. Over the years he showed us many photo albums of trips & special events, all of his family, the service, brothers, including his wedding pictures. I couldn't tell all of his jokes to my mother, but we looked forward to them. Ray will be missed by many friends. He was blessed to have had such a loving family.
