Quentin Benjamin Obituary

Benjamin, Quentin Irving 87, passed quietly, surrounded by his family at his home, "The Park at Vernon Hills". He was a veteran of WWII and former resident of Skokie, IL. Mr. Benjamin served his country in the Second World War Pacific Theater. His service record revealed that he had been awarded a Victory Medal, two Bonze Battle Stars and a Philippine Liberation Ribbon. An especially kind man, when Our Lady of Angels fire happened, he patented two inventions to help the fire department get to fires more quickly. He and his wife, Diana, were owners of Benji's Fast Foods Restaurant and the adjacent parking lot and car wash next to Wrigley Field. Always an optimist, he was known as "Sunny" ("Sonny"). Having lost his father at age 4, "Sunny" worked most of his boyhood. He is the smiling teenager on the cover of Irving Cutler's The Jews of Chicago". Mr. Benjamin was handicapped by a series of strokes in his early eighties. He lost the ability to walk, then his ability to talk. Still, he would greet people with a smile and his traditional hand wave, back and forth, as if to say, "I'm going to be dancing". His family and friends are coming from all over America and Europe to honor his memory. Mr. Benjamin, a wonderful husband and father and grandfather is survived by his wife, Diana; his daughters, Linda Benjamin-Lincoln and Dr. Susan Feingold; his grandchildren, Joshua Kline from Granada, Spain; Daniel Kline a medical student from Guadalajara, Mexico; Hadar Feingold a student at the University of California--Santa Barbara; and Seth Feingold, a student at Elm Place Middle School in Highland Park. Services Wednesday, 1 p.m. at Weinstein Funeral Home North Shore Chapel, 111 Skokie Blvd., Wilmette (1 block North of Old Orchard). Interment Anshe Yanover Cemetery--Waldheim, Forest Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Midwest Palliative & Hospice Carecenter, 2050 Claire Ct., Glenview, IL, 60025 or Magen David Adom, 8930 Gross Point Rd., Skokie, IL, 60077.
