Dear Gail, Julie and Alex,
Your family and mine (the Winners) were friends through Temple Beth-El back in the 60s. I just came across your mother's OB and am deeply saddened. I really can't find the words to express what is in my heart at this time, except to say how wonderful your family was and how fondly I remember our times together. I suddenly recall certain Hartmann moments: Alex's broken leg, the prism your father kept in his office, Hebrew lessons from Gail and her wedding...Tears are welling up. I would love to hear how you're all doing. Please accept my profound condolences. Phyllis was such a lovely, intelligent, warm and wonderful human being.

Dear Hartman family, I love the quote about joy you included here. It truly evokes the infectious spirit of Phyllis, her joy in life, in nature, beauty and people. I feel blessed to have met her at Temple Israel, to sit behind her and Walter in services, wearing their beautiful hand-made-by-Phyllis tallits, and their obvious joy in each other, the prayers, and Jewish learning. She gave so much of herself, and opened her home to me and my family when my son was young. I remember the greenhouse, Walter's canes, her stories about England. We loved being with her, and I want to thank you for the beautiful service you held, the music, poems, loving memories you shared. You are a wonderful family, reflecting the many gifts Phyllis gave. My deep sympathy for your loss of this amazing woman. Robin Rich
