Phillip Goens Obituary

Goens, Phillip Emmanuel

Phillip Emmanuel Goens Sr., aged 65, of Chicago Illinois passed away on March 22, 2024 in Dyer Indiana. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 21, 1958, the son of Donald Goens and Patricia (Goens) Campbell. Phillip attended Carter Elementary School. He graduated from Morgan Park High School in 1976 and attended Western Illinois College.

Following College, he had a fulfilling career working at UPS, BaxGlobal, and eventually he started his own business, RN Logistics. He met Brenda Scott and her daughter Tanysha and they became a family in July 1993. To this union Phillip Goens Jr. was born just before Christmas on December 16, 1995.

Phillip gave his life to Christ during his younger years as a member of Progressive Community Church. He loved to play the piano and organ, winning several recitals and playing on Sunday mornings at Cathedral of Love Missionary Baptist Church. Though Phillip was musically talented, he also had a sense of humor and enjoyed having fun with friends and family. Often, he spent his Saturdays impersonating the Three Stooges. Phillip enjoyed spending time with his college friends, the "High Rollers", Darryl, Dion, Ken, Mike, Randy, and Ronald; attending his grandson's baseball games, track meets and taking him to and from school; and watching baseball, basketball and football. Phillip was someone you could always call on for a good long conversation. He was a member of Covenant United Church of Christ.

Phillip was predeceased by his wife, Brenda Goens, his parents Donald Goens and Patricia (Goens) Campbell, Maternal Grandparents Wilmot and Irene Reames, and favorite Aunt Carol Sue Baker.

Phillip is survived by a host of relatives and friends which includes his daughter, Tanysha Phillips(Jamaal); son, Phillip Goens Jr.; brother(s) - Don Goens Jr (Marchelle) and Carleton Campbell Sr; sister - Angelia Perry; Uncle Wilmot (Billy) Reames; grandchildren - Caleb, Tyler and Janiya Phillips; goddaughter Shannon Khalil; nieces/nephews - Dawna Leggett (Ihsan), Diana Goens, Dr. Donald Goens III (Kathryn); Carleton Campbell Jr; Sheryce Drake (Charles), Lynnycesa Palmer (Marcus), Lynnwood Perry, Damico Perry Sr (Shereece); and cousins - Jasmine and Brandon Reames. Phillip has eleven great nieces and nephews - Lorenzo, Ash'Li, Lynnia, Khloe, Alana, Lynnijuh, Sorayah, London, Lyndon, Damico Jr and Zaire.
