Paul Milord Obituary

Milord, Paul J.

Paul J. Milord, 90, longtime resident of Homewood, beloved husband of Maureen for 70 years, cherished father of Catherine Milord (Art Schueneman), Carol Turner, Kevin (Lisa), Amy Harrell (Kevin), Philip (Donna), Donna Somerville (Luke), Paul (Betsey/late Patti), Jackie Raimo (Jeff); loving grandmother to 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; dear son, brother, uncle, and friend to so many. Paul grew up with his (late) siblings Tom, Jim, Jane (Ardizzone), and Eileen (Zuro) in the Brainerd neighborhood in Chicago, just a few doors down from Maureen. His lifelong relationship with Maureen blossomed in high school and they married soon after. As president of R.T. Milord Company (now The Milord Company), Paul was responsible for the design and construction of hundreds of educational and religious facilities as well as commercial, industrial, and luxury housing developments throughout the country. Yet, Paul built so much more than just scores of buildings and the family business. He built a strong and joyful marriage with Maureen that lasted decades. He also built a large and happy family and the ever-expanding house in which they lived. Paul and Maureen created a warm and loving home open to everyone and an epic backyard legendary for its lively conversations and rollicking good times. Paul built community and lifelong friendships as well, especially through his involvement with the Chicago Heights Drama Group where he and Maureen designed, directed, or performed in at least 100 productions. Paul's designs for both buildings and theater sets mirrored his approach to raising children and living life: beautiful yet demanding, and always incorporating an unerring sense of proportion and perspective. He was the best of men. Visitation Sunday, March 19, 2–7pm at Tews-Ryan Funeral Home, 18230 S. Dixie Highway, Homewood. Funeral Mass Monday, March 20, 11am at Saint John Neumann Church (formerly Saint Joseph's), 17951 S. Dixie Highway, Homewood. Interment at Assumption Catholic Cemetery, 19500 S. Cottage Grove Avenue, Glenwood, IL.
