Patrick McCurdy Obituary

McCURDY Patrick Enright and Olivia Joan A Memorial Mass will be held for Patrick Enright McCurdy, 40, of Eugene, OR and his daughter, Olivia Joan, 2, on Saturday, May 3, 2003, at 11 a.m., at Sts. Faith, Hope and Charity Church, 191 Linden St., Winnetka, IL. They died in an automobile accident in Pleasant Hill, OR on March 17, 2003. Patrick, born in Evanston on April 4, 1962, was the son of Patricia Patterson McCurdy of Glenview and John McCurdy of Wadsworth. Raised in Winnetka, he graduated from Loyola Academy, the University of Oregon and received his Masters Degree in Social Work from Sonoma State University, CA. At the time of his death he was a counselor at Pleasant Hill High School, OR. Previously, he had worked at Stepping Stones, a youth home in Eugene, Sunny Hills Children's Home in San Anselmo, CA, and was a counselor at Petaluma, CA, Middle School, where he received the Honored Teacher Award. He married Katherine Barr in 1997, and their daughter, Olivia, was born on June 18, 2000. Patrick is survived by his wife, Katie of Eugene; his parents, Patsy McCurdy and John McCurdy; two brothers, Kevin (Mary) of Menlo Park, CA, Christopher (Martha) of Northbrook, IL; four sisters, Mary Kyle (Thomas Christ) of Portland, OR, Karen (Frank Karpowicz) of S. Kingston, RI, Grier (Thomas Matthews) of Corte Madera, CA and Courtney of Seattle, WA; and 12 nieces and nephews. Olivia is survived by her mother, Katie; her grandparents, Patsy McCurdy and John McCurdy and Robert and Joan Barr of Bend, OR; her uncle, Judson Barr of Mill Valley, CA and her 12 loving cousins. Ceremonies to honor their lives were held at Pleasant Hill High School on March 21, 2003, and at the Mt. Pisgah Arboretum in Eugene on March 22, 2003. To honor the work and students that Patrick loved, the Patrick and Olivia McCurdy Scholarship Fund has been established at Pleasant Hill High School.
