Patrick Cotter Obituary

Cotter, Patrick Patrick Cotter was Rosemary's loving husband, Sara and Angelica's devoted dad, Cecelia's doting Popop, Mike (Joanne) and Tito's (Laurie) brother, Patrick W. and Lois' (both deceased) son, and Alfie, Chewy, Lucy, Mari, Peatree, Jack, and Izzie's pack leader. He also had an adopted family from Brazil, the Quartim Barbosas - father Francisco (deceased), mother Maria Cecelia, brothers Francisco (Quinco) and Haroldo, and sister Anna Maria. Patrick was born in Madison, Wisconsin in 1946 and raised in Milwaukee. He graduated from UW - Madison in 1969 and served in the United States Army from 1969-71. He earned his doctorate in economics from UW - Milwaukee in 1979 and was an assistant professor of economics (tenured) at John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio from 1977-85. In January 1986, he moved to Chicago and began his career at the American Medical Association, retiring in January 2013 as the Vice President of Professional Standards Operations. He loved his work supporting the medical profession and especially valued the many friends and colleagues he made at the AMA and in organized medicine. On March 20, 2004, he married Rosemary Oliva, the love of his life, who brought two beautiful daughters, Sara and Angelica, into their new family. Memorial service Sunday, September 8, 2013, 2-5pm at the Mortem Arboretum, Thornhill Education Center in the Arbor Room, 4100 Illinois 53, Lisle. At 2:30p.m., those who wish to share memories of Patrick Cotter are welcome to do so at that time. Cremation Society of Illinois is handling the arrangements. For info 1-800-622-8358.

I am honored to have met and worked with such a fine and outstanding person. Pat was a great guy and will be missed greatly not only by me but by all the people who knew him. May he rest peacefully and his family find comfort in his love and their love of him.
