Patricia Washington-Holloway Obituary

Washington-Holloway, Patricia Lynn "Pat" Washington-Holloway died peacefully on Monday, November 4, 2013 at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, IL. Pat was born on January 14, 1940 in Memphis, TN to Roslyn Wells Walker and Dr. Jerome P. Walker (both deceased). Following the demise of their parents, she and her younger sister Roslyn Adele Walker moved to Baton Rouge, LA to live with their aunt Jim Etta Lee and her husband Robert (both deceased). From childhood until she passed away, Pat was very active and involved in numerous organizations, including the Memphis Chapter of Jack & Jill; the Second Congregational Church, the Girl Scouts of America, Zephyr Social Club, and the New Homemakers of America Association. As a teenager at Douglass High School, she was the lone Negro teen to represent the Memphis (Negro) YWCA at a national, integrated conference in Dallas, TX. She was also a member of the Windy City Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, the Moles, the Chicago Chapter of the Douglass High School Alumni Association, The Southern University Alumni Federation, Chicago Chapter of the Carrousels, and a Life Member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She had been an active member of that organization for over 52 years. She was a member of Crerar Memorial Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon and belonged to the Presbyterian Women of Crerar and the PGJ Circle. Upon graduating from Southern University with a B.S. degree in English/Speech and Education, she earned an M.A. in Speech Language Pathology at the State University of South Dakota. As a Speech-Language Pathologist, Pat served more than 50 Chicago Public Schools over the course of her 37 year career. Survivors include Pat's devoted husband, Lawrence Holloway; her children, Patrice Langford (Robert) and Franklin Washington; sister, Roslyn Adele Walker; grandchildren, Quinn Patricia Langford and Frank Joseph Washington; and several cousins; an aunt; a foster son and a host of friends and family who will miss her generosity, friendship, loving care, and adventurous spirit. Visitation at 9:30 a.m. will be followed by a Memorial Service at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Crerar Memorial Presbyterian Church, 8100 S. Calumet, Chicago, IL 60619. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to The Ivy Foundation, memo: "Jim Etta Lee Scholarship", P.O. Box 3902, Baton Rouge, LA 70821. Arrangements by David Boone Sr. Funeral Director.
