What can I say about Pat Nolan that would do her memory justice? She was a wonderful, caring, loving woman, devoted to Jack, to her kids, to her Church, to her parish, and to her friends. She could tell a story with the best of them and rarely left you in doubt regarding how she felt about something. She knew how to have a good laugh and a good time and knew the value of both. Yes, life involves a lot of hard work, and surely Pat's life did, but she always took the time to enjoy the sweeter aspects of life.
I met Pat more than 30 years ago at St. Peter's in the Loop, where she was a daily communicant and I helped with the collection, along with her other friends, Peter and Big John. She took the time to introduce herself to me because she had a young female co-worker whom she thought I might like to meet. That particular match-making effort didn't work out, but Pat and I became lifelong friends. Through the years we have shared many stories, opinions, and laughs. She has been an inspiration to me, my wife, and my kids, and the likes of Pat will rarely, if ever, be seen again.
Pat never tired of telling me of her kids and grandkids; her pride in them was the most salient trait of a woman who displayed many, many admirable traits. Doubtless you are as proud of your mom as she was, and is, of you. You are her legacy. And she is now your intercessor, sitting at the right hand of her Father watching out for youand sharing a laugh, and maybe a drink or two, with her beloved Jack.
I will surely miss her.
