Carol Sheffer, age 88, passed away peacefully Oct. 22nd at Boutwells Landing in Oak Park Heights, MN.
Carol was born on October 3, 1937 in Farmington, MN to Grace and Elmer Brosseth. She was the oldest of three children. Carol graduated on June 2, 1955 from Farmington Senior High School, went on to Winona State, graduating on July 17, 1959. As an adult, she earned her Master's Degree from Hamline University in St. Paul. She earned many post graduate credits, enough for a journalism major at the University of Minnesota, and additional credits at various other universities.
Carol was a lifelong educator. She taught one year at Waseca Senior High, before working for the Minnesota Education Association and then spending the great bulk of her long career as an English and Journalism Teacher in the Bloomington School System. She taught at both Lincoln Senior High School and Jefferson Senior High School where she was the Chair of the English Dept.
She was a lifelong Democrat, supporting the party and also worked in Politics in Bloomington on city boards.
Carol was a world traveler visiting many different countries including Japan, Australia, France, England, Norway, Denmark, Costa Rica and Italy.
In 1968, she married L. Rodney Sheffer, a fellow teacher, and they lived in Bloomington until retiring to homes on Cedar Lake near Aitkin and later on Bay Lake near Deerwood. The couple moved to Woodbury for several years before going into assisted living at Boutwells Landing in 2018.
Carol was a faithful member of King of Kings Church in Woodbury.
Carol was preceded in death by husband L. Rodney; her parents; and sister Ruth McKay. She is survived by step-son Loren Sheffer and his wife Monika; grandchildren Amy (Brendan) Western, Nicole (Jorid) Keri, Bodie and Summer Sheffer; great-grandchildren Ruby, Marko and Aleksander; loving nieces Kristie Gates and Kim Laws; brother Allen (Kayce) Brosseth; and a nephew.
Special thanks and appreciation to the memory care unit at Boutwells Landing, Hospice, and their entire care team. Carol was a caring and thoughtful teacher to thousands of students, a wonderful wife and step-mom.

Carol was buried at Corinthian Cemetery in Farmington on October 27th next to her parents as to her final wishes.
