Pamela Haley Obituary

Haley, Pamela Vickers A distinguished clinical therapist died with grace and serenity on July 21, 2015, from adeno carcinoma after 6 months, 4 days hospice at her home in Hyde Park, Chicago. A Board Certified Diplomate, Ms. Haley served the Outpatient Psychiatry Department, University of Chicago for 12 years, the Erie Senior Health Center for 13, and Evanston Northwestern Healthcare for 14. She additionally maintained a private practice at 53 W. Jackson, and previously 6 N. Michigan Ave. An accomplished violinist, Ms. Haley was a steadfast patron of the arts. She was educated at the college of the University of Chicago, school of Social Service Administration, the Institute of Psychoanalysis, and the Department of Philosophy at Loyola University. She was interested in medical ethics, especially as it relates to the elderly. She was an early supporter of women's issues, favoring Susan Sontag's advocacy. She co-taught the psychology of gender at Roosevelt University. Born in Newton, Kansas, 1934, she is survived by her husband, Sam Guard and 4 stepchildren. A memorial service will be held Sunday, September 20th at 5:30 p.m. at the University of Chicago in Bond Chapel, located on the campus quadrangle beside Swift Hall. Donations to honor her memory should be made to the Chicago Hyde Park Village, a charitable organization devoted to assisting the aged. Attention: Lauren Alspaugh, Executive Director, 5500 S.
