Norma Nicol Obituary

Nicol, Norma Wall Age 85, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2016 in Arizona. Preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Lovisa; dear brother, Donald, and husband, Edward. Born Norma Claire Wall, she was raised in the Gresham neighborhood on Chicago's south side. Voted the "Best Looking Girl" of her graduating class of 1949 at Harper High School, she married the "Best Looking Boy" of that same class, Edward Nicol. Norma and Ed began their family in Chicago before moving to Bridgeview, IL, and then Evergreen Park, IL, where they raised 5 children. They were happily married for 34 years until Edward's passing in 1986. Norma then went on to live in their home in Fontana, WI for the rest of her life. Norma was known for her warmth, humor and wit, and was famous for reducing her children to fits of laughter and major embarrassment. Norma is survived by her children, Lorraine (William) Halper, Nancy, George, Edward, and Alison. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Carla (Joseph) Sutheimer, Gavin Halper, Kelsey Cole, Liza, Ellen and Bennett Nicol, Chloe Nicol, and she loved Barbara Bottando like a daughter. Norma was the lifelong and devoted friend of special sister-in-law, Joann Wall, George and Joan Rumel, Dorothy and Pete, Margaret and Tom, Donna and Chuck, Gennie, Phyllis, Jean; neighbor, Jackie, and many others too numerous to mention. Norma had many interests, including traveling, history of the American West, Indian art and folklore, and famous figures in American history. Norma was the nexus around which all others orbited, and never had an unkind word to say of anyone. Throughout the long arc of her journey through life she touched many, many lives, always adding, never subtracting, always enriching and never detracting, and leaving everyone feeling fortunate and blessed to have been along for even a small portion of that ride. A memorial event is being planned and arrangements are pending.

Lori, Nancy, George, Ed and Alison...
We were so saddened by the news of Normie's passing. What a wonderful friend to my parents (and all of us) for these many years. She put the "fun in Fontana" that is for sure. We all have our favorite memory of your mom, with the common thread being laughter!! May you and yours find comfort in knowing how loved she was by so many.
Love and hugs,

Nicol family, I am sorry to hear about your mom. I remember growing up as kids and laughing when together, what a great sense of humor. My mom loved her like a sister. May all the good memories stay close to your heart.
