Nicholas J. Kozak, age 50, of Villa Park, Forest Park Police Department and Retired U.S. Army Veteran. Beloved husband of Maureen, nee Truschke; dear son of the late Ramon and Barbara Kozak, nee Bratek; fond brother of Anastasia (Rob) Garcia; loving brother-in-law of Margaret (Patrick) Muscia and Brian (Holly) Truschke; loving uncle of Tyler and Jacob Garcia, and Amanda and Sarah Muscia. "De Oppresso Liber". Visitation Sunday, December 5th, from 2 PM until 8 PM at Steuerle Chapel, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Funeral Service Monday, December 6th, at 10:00AM at Steuerle Chapel. Nick was a consummate professional soldier and had a tender heart. I always enjoyed my time on the range with him and training others... and of course, the afterhour story telling over beers - he was a great story teller. He will be missed by all. I'm personally shocked by this news. RIP, brother. My condolences to Nick's family, friends, and those who served alongside him in the military and L/E.

I served with Nick since 1998, first in the Recon Platoon and then in Special Forces. Nick was a fair, reasonable and dedicated friend and soldier; he will be missed by all.

Stunned to hear the news. Burt fell out of touch with Nick after ILEAS for awhile. He attempted contact several times. We were blessed to meet Nick´s family at a lasagna (we think) cook off one year.
A colorful and generous soul. He brought us to tears more than once with his story telling.
