I knew Nick, first as his student, later as a mentor and colleague. His quotations were famous at the University of Illinois. He was an example of provessionalism to many physicians. He will be missed.

I knew Nick for about 30 years, meeting him for the first tim when he returned from Peoria and began to spend more time seeing patients. I will always remember when he pubished a monograph that I gave him that a friend of mine had sent to me that he was having trouble getting published. Nick read it and told me to tell him that if he would take the venom out of it He would publish it. He did and Nick did.

My deepest sympathies to the family of a great man. I knew Nick for many years while he worked with me on our faculty at UIC. I admired him immensely.
