Milton Borgardt Obituary

BORGARDT, Milton Dean
Known to all his friends as "Bogie" was born in Portland, Oregon June 7, 1928. He passed away April 25, 2013, in Palmdale, Calif. Bogie served in the Merchant Marines for a year in 1944, at the age of 16, and then joined the Army in December of 1945, stationed first in Paris and then Germany where he met and married the love of his life, Nina. He was discharged from the Army in 1949, and returned to Portland. He worked for Lyons Moving and Storage as a driver traveling throughout the United States. n 1959, he moved his family to Lancaster where he worked for and eventually managed Lancaster Moving and Storage. Bogie and Nina moved back to Portland in 1978, and lived there until his retirement in 1993. They returned to the A.V. in 1996. He was a proud Teamster until the day he died. Bogie had a kind and generous personality and was loved by everyone he met. He will be sorely missed by all. I wanted to take a moment, to tell you thank you for everything that you have done for me all these years. Without you, I would not be the person that I am today. Grandpa you have truly given me love, joy, and memories that I will carry with me throughout my life. I hope to pass onto my son, all of the wonderful things that you have given me.
I will miss our long talks, and the great advice that you were always more than happy to give me.
You will continue to be in my heart and thoughts through some of our favorite songs to the laughter in your voice that I can still hear to this day.

"I'll find you in the morning sun, and when the night is new. I'll be looking at the moon, but I'll be seeing you..."

I will remember Grandpa as always being extremely warm and caring, generous, loving, and sensitive. I will miss knowing that he is always looking out for us all, as we (his family) find our way through life.
Additionally, one of the special memories that touched me was one of my mom's - how she said that she would always be so giddy when Grandpa would come to visit, and how she would run out to the driveway to meet him, and how he would laugh and give her a huge hug. She told this to me years ago and I always felt like I could picture it in my head...that was Grandpa! He had a large heart and room for everyone.
He was always more concerned with us than with himself...I hope that he knows that he was important to us and that we loved him and will miss him.
I love you Grandpa, and I hope to see you again some day.

I am so fortunate to have had such a wonderful grandfather. He was always there with unconditional love and support and his sense of work ethic and responsibility is something I can only strive for. He was the most caring and generous person I have known and will be deeply missed.

One measure of a man is the legacy left behind. Pop was not perfect. After all, he was a democrat and union man. And he had a hatred of the Dodgers and Lakers that we still can't understand. But Pop was a good, fair, generous and honest man with an incredible work ethic. I still remember one of his lectures, as I would leave for my first job at the grocery store – you have a contract with them; they pay you for an hour's work and you have an obligation to give them an hour of your best work. Pop believed in hard work and he lived his life that way.

More than forty years later, my recollections of his admonishments are still vivid. I know these were his gifts to Mike and me, and they shaped our lives for the good.

Pop's legacy was to leave behind him two successful, hard working and honest sons with wonderful wives; and five grand children and five (soon to be six) great grand children that loved him very much. So Mike and I will continue to carry Pop's legacy forward through our wonderful children and their children.

We love and miss you Pop.

A kind and generous person and a role model to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; I will greatly miss my grandfather. Always supportive, and never judgmental, I will miss discussing with him everything from baseball to his life on the road as a truck driver. Rest in peace Bogie.
