Mike (a.k.a. Squeege, Nunzio),

For the past week I have been looking at hundreds of photos from vacations (horse back riding, motorcycle riding, skiing, and camping) with you and the rest of the lads. Thank God there were no photos from those early morning torture sessions you called exercise. There are no words that could adequately describe the impact you had on my life. With few words you provided a lifetime of guidance and friendship.

You have always been one of the cherished few that believed mentoring didn't end at the end of a work day. You challenged us in creative ways to become better people. Not by some profound philosophical rambling, but in practical, realistic ways. You showed us the way and rarely complained about anything- unless food was nowhere in sight.

Your passing is bittersweet. The sweet- For you the pain has ended and you now enjoy precious delight of the afterworld. The bitter- Our pain continues. Your loss means so many things to so many different people. Listening to the stories from everyone about the impact you have had on their lives is quite humbling. Despite not having been as close as we once were, the loss I feel is quite profound. I looked forward to the day when the girls were older and my “one year off” had ended and I could share those precious times again.

God bless you Mike. He blessed us for so many years with your presence. And when you first meet him, try not to call him “Shemp.”

To the Luisi family...my thoughts and prayers are with all of you. In the small amount of time I have spent with your family, I see how truly blessed Mike was!

Mike, thank you for all the wonderful memories and laughter you have given me. I am so greatful that we were able to ride (cause you taught me you don't "drive" a motorcycle) and vacation together! Although you are not physically with us, your presence will always be with us! You will be missed!

To The Family of Mike Luisi: Please accept our deepest sympathy on the passing of Mike. I spent many years working side by side as Police officers. Although I worked for Oak Park Police and he worked for Forest Park, we were still family and friends. He will be really missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and the Luisi family.

Michael,

I truly appreciated the friends we had become. We probably talked more in the last few years than we did through our whole marriage. (smiles) I treasured our last visits. You are the strongest man I have ever known -physically and emotionally. Not much rocked you. Even in our last telephone conversation - you never complained, or spoke of your discomfort, or any of your regrets. You only asked "How I was doing, how was my mom & dad, how was my dog, had I been doing any riding". Even just a few weeks ago, you were still thinking of others. I remember hanging up - crying and realizing that you were the strongest man I know.

Being married to you was like DisneyWorld. Lots of thrills, a few that weren't so good - but ultimately we came to find each other through a great friendship and never ending love for each other and our families.

You are missed. But - always remembered. I'll have a drink or two for you in Myrtle, Daytona and Sturgis next year. Love monica

We'll all miss you Mike!

Mike was an amazing sort, the strongest, kindest, most generous person I know. I was like many others that Mike took under his wing. He was the catalyst for an annual motorcycle trip in September. He would bring a group of us together for trips none of us will ever forget. I had the privilege of seeing the country riding with him. There is no other person I would have rather have been lost with in the mountains of Arizona than Mike. From Key West, to Las Vegas - New Hampshire to Sturgis - - Mike made the trips Fun. Breaking down in Colorado - Mike made it Fun. These were some of the best times of my life. Mike reminded me to Live, Love, and Enjoy life. He lived everyday as it should be lived. I know it is very selfish of me after all that Mike went through, but I feel cheated that God took him from us - already.

More often than not, the reason that we like being around someone is not because of how we feel about them, but how we feel about ourselves when we are with them. This could not be more true than how we all felt when in Mikes company. He could make me laugh with a whistle, or a “shemp”. He gave great advice. He was a true friend.

To the Luisi Family: No words can express how I feel - I’M SORRY. Than You for sharing Mike with us.

To MIKE: Like a lot of people who knew you, they wanted to be like you, and I was one of them - but there is only one you. I’m sorry my last goodbye to you was over the telephone, instead of by your side. I love you, from the bottom of my heart.

Mike,

I never thought this day would come; I remember spending so many midnights talking with you about our lives and our "oh so great but yet oh so screwed up" relationships, while sharing a bag of your mom's homemade pretzels! Therapeautic I'd say, the talks and the pretzels!

You were definitely one in a million Mike; I appreciate all the advice you ever gave me, I'll miss your sinister laughter, I'll always remember the time you showed up to help me move in the midst of that disaster I went through and now there is no one left to call me the "troll"!

Take care, stroll along through the rest of your days illness free and HAPPY and ride that Harley right through those gates up there! I'll miss you as will many others, but you'll be just fine Mike. We'll see you again one day.
