Michael Vavrek Obituary

Vavrek, Michael Ronald 73, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in his final hours on Sunday, February 15, 2015 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. A lifelong Cicero resident, Michael graduated from St. Dionysius School and Morton East High School. He served in the U.S. Army as a military police officer. Upon his discharge, he joined the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in 1992. A simple man with old fashioned values, Michael was an avid sports fan who enjoyed horse racing, fishing, playing cards and listening to traditional country music. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. Michael is survived by his sister, Beverly (Frank) Schubert; nephews, Frank (Susan) Shubert and Mark Shubert; niece, Tracy (Eric) Magyar; great-nephews, Frank Shubert IV, Tristan and Severus Magyar; great-nieces, AnnMarie and Kimberley Shubert. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Anne Vavrek and baby brother, Philip. Funeral Saturday, February 21st 9:30 a.m. from Suburban Family Funeral Home, 5940 W. 35th St. (corner of 35th St. & Austin), Cicero to St. Mary of Czestochowa Church.
