It is so hard to have to say goodbye to our Grampa, Carmine's Papa. Totally devoted to family, friends, the White Sox, and the Chicago/St. Louis/Arizona Cardinals; if ever there was a man to emulate, he was it. We're gonna miss you big guy.

Hi Aunt Barb,

I was very saddened to hear of the passing of your father. From the time when I was very little, I can remember your mom and dad at Jen's and Mike's birthday parties. Back then, I didn't quite understand who these people were that I only ever saw at your house, but who always greeted me like I was family. As I got older and understood more, I became extremely grateful that people who had no personal blood tie to me could be so lovely and genuinely pleased to see me at each party. Especially being born and growing up with only one surviving grandparent, I appreciated every hug and kiss your mom and dad bestowed upon me. It takes a special kind of person to have that much love and kindness in their heart, that there'd be even a little room for me, too. This weekend, I grieve with you and your nearest over the loss you have suffered, but also rejoice in knowing that a man with such a generous heart is undoubtedly watching over you all and patiently awaiting the day when he will be rejoined with his loved ones. I send all my prayers to you and yours as you prepare to lay him to rest, and hope the coming trials will not be too grievous.

With all my love,

Your niece, Ashley

You showed me many things in life. Things I hold dear. For instance, snakes can indeed eat zebras. Those are the things I will miss. Wether relevant to the moment or not, you shared with us things you found amazing, which is something I will never forget.

You were an awesome dad, father in law and grandfather. I think about you daily and it brings me to tears, but I will be ok. I know the holidays will be hard, but you'll be right in your spot at the head of the table for Christmas dinner. You will be missed. Mom will be okay and I will make sure of it.
All our love.

Papa-
I cannot put into words what life has been the past month without you here in the physical form with us. Life is and will never be the same without you. I lost my Grandma Sarah just weeks after I was born and my Grandpa Jim back when dad was still a young boy, so you and gram were the only grandparents I've ever known. Unfortunately, in a way you've had to pull double duty, but it seemed effortless for you both. You were always so supportive of all of us and we were never without the overwhelming feeling of love. I know you wanted to be there for me on my opening night and I believe fully that you were, you had the best seat in the house! I am so grateful that I was able to call you my papa for 28 years. I don't want you to worry about any of us, we still have each other and together, because of your example, we are strong. We will all continue to take care of grandma for you, so enjoy the wonderful love and company of all our family up there with you. You were loved by so many and that was evident by the outpouring of love and support to grandma and the family at the wake and funeral. I hope you were looking down and saw all the people who love you. Now, go enjoy a game of pinochle, golf or just take a nice nap without any of us telling you to stop snoring! I love and miss you every day!

I have lost my History Channel and Old War Movies Companion. You and I caught grief from our brides especially when watching old black and white movies that weren't colorized. We would shake our heads and continue watching them. I miss you but I have the good memories that cann't be taken away

It is with a saddened heart this is written. The Paternostro family is a large family and while living in Chicago my husband and I were welcomed to so many family affairs at his daughter Barb and Dan's house. It is there we met Mike and Emily and other family. Mike greeted us with a firm handshake and a genuine warm smile making us feel like family. He was that kind of man. We laughed, ate pasta, and truly felt the dynamics of a close-knit loving Italian family. Paternostro in Latin means "our father." Truly Barb, Donna, and Tom, who have called him father all their lives knew he was special not only in their family, but to countless others. Jack and I extend our heartfelt sympathy to all his family, who now experience a great loss. He shared his friendship with one and all. God has called a good man home. He will be missed. His smile spoke volumes about his character.
