I would like to share a memory. I was searching for Mike for some time but could not locate him even with the help of social media. But now I found him and it's too late. In the Early 70s I worked at Continental air transport o'hare. Mike was a great friend. One year he got me a cocker spaniel as a gift. It was the latest gift I ever got. And for my birthday he bought me a necklace and earrings which I still have. I am so sad. Condolences to the family.

I just came across Mike’s obituary and would like to convey my sympathies to his family.
In the early 70’s my brother and I worked with Mike at Continental Air Transport at O’Hare. He was very gracious in showing us the ropes and served as an excellent mentor. He was a straight shooter which I liked.
Outside of work, Mike arranged a basketball game one evening at St Gregory’s.his Chicago team of young guys vs our suburban team of young guys. Needless to say, this rivalry ended with the Chicago team beating us soundly. We never lived that one down.
Mike also arranged for our CAT O’Hare softball team to play other airline teams on a field near a runway and he also set up a game with the Chicago Police at Thillens Stadium. With Mike coaching, we always did well.
While my time at CAT was short as I got a teaching job, I have fond memories of working with Mike. He was a presence that will be missed.

If we are lucky...during our lifetime...we meet and have the priviledge of knowing a loving, kind, giving soul with such integrity...I thank the Lord that I was blessed during my lifetime to know Mike. He leaves this earth and also leaves me a better person for touching my heart with the wonderful work that he did for the veterans. I had such a priviledge to work with him "Veterans for a Change" - and he gave so much to teach children the meaning of the word "veteran". Mike gave me a tour of the Elks Headquarters in Chicago a few years ago. What he shared and taught me I will hold forever in my heart. What a wonderful, decent, giving friend. May angels always sleep on your pillow Mike. *HUG*

Dear Manning Family
Mike Manning had the best barbecue rib sauce known to man. I always told him he should have bottled it. I will also never forget Mike being the first person at my fathers wake, he was a great comfort and made me smile. He gave us strength when we needed it the most!
Blessings to all,

Dear Manning Family and Pat Fraser,
I wanted to extend my condolences on the loss of your brother and dear friend. Mike is one of those people who made the world a better place. I met Mike through my parents, and have enjoyed many good memories. Mike and I shared several dinners when he came to DC, the most memorable was Halloween 2001, our daughter's 1st. Mike so enjoyed that dinner with this 11 month old in a pumpkin costume gazing at him and smiling from ear to ear. He will always be in my heart.

My Special Message to Mikie,
You were the best boss I ever had. It just seems like you are on a business trip, out sick or just running late. I can't believe you won't be in your office anymore.
Our friendship goes back many years and we shared many good times.
I'll never forget when you double booked my wedding date at Chicago North Elks!
There is no one like you.
I will miss you dearly.

Dearest family and especially Pat Fraser, I know Mike is in heaven looking down on all of us and giving us his great big smile. I want to tell Mike that I will never look at a head of lettuce without thinking of him as when he walked down the aisle at St. Gregory's to bring the lettuce at offeratory. It was a sign of his attitude towards righteousness and the lettuce pickers. I know you all remember this and may the thought of it help you to smile like he did. Love and prayers, Marylyn Ahlfeld

Although I have not seen Mike in several years, I still have many memories of him in the halls of St. Gregory, always with a smile on his face. I also remember one of our earliest reunions at the Elk's that he spearheaded. He will be missed. I was unable to attend the wake or funeral Mass, but want to send a Mass card. Please let me know where and to whom I should send it.

Dear Manning Family, I'm sorry to hear about Mike's passing. What a great guy. I was fortunate to meet him at a younger age when Mike and Jerry Ritt were our 7th and 8th grade basketball coaches, and later in life bump into them on Diversey and Sheridan where I was the foot man. Mike left a lasting impression on me and I'm sure everyone he met as a genuine, honest, thoughtful man. We're all a little bit better for knowing Mike. God Bless, and Good Luck.

Mike kept me alive during our time in the Elks. He urged me to do things that were unusual and entertaining. Even though i got into trouble most of the time, he enjoyed it vicariously. He was one of the best friends i ever had in Elkdom and in Illinois.

You have heard the tolling of eleven strokes.
This is to remind us that with Elks the hour of eleven has a tender significance.
Wherever an Elk may roam, Whatever his lot in life may be, when this hour falls upon the dial of night the great heart of Elkdom swells and throbs. It is the golden hour of recollection, the homecoming of those who wander, the mystic roll call of those who will come no more. Living or dead, an Elk is never forgotten, never forsaken. Morning and noon may pass him by, the light of day sink heedlessly in the West, but ere the shadows of midnight shall fall, the chimes of memory will be pealing forth the friendly message
"TO OUR ABSENT BROTHER"
To you Mike, who taught me the 11:00 toast and the importance of friends.

I can't believe that Michael is really gone. Some of the best times of my life included Mike and Patty - garage sales, dinners, state meetings. I will never forget the fear I felt when I had to cook for him and how gracious he was with his compliments. Even tho I haven't seen Mike for several years, I do think of him often because those good memories are such a big part of my life. It's hard to think of this world without Mike. I'm sure it won't be long before he is a friend to everyone in heaven. My sympathies to the Manning family and to Patty. I'm so sorry for your loss. And I'm sorry for our loss, too.
