We were best friends in grammar school.

I assume this is the same Mickey Levitt I knew in the 1940's and early 50's. If it is, we were both in the same class at Gale Grammar school in Rogers Park, Chicago, IL. He lived with his parents (father was Sam) and older sister in an apartment in the Broadmoor Hotel on Howard Street where I visited him many times. When we were 8 to 12 years old we were the best of friends and did many things together. I distinctly recall that he was a great fan of the Chicago Cubs and we enjoyed going to some of the Cubs games together.
Unfortunately, I just found out about this today, November 22, 2021. I am truly sorry that he died and will always remember him. Incidentally, although I currently live in the San Francisco area, I plan on also being buried with my family in Westlawn cemetery.

Dear Diane,
I am so sorry to hear about your recent loss of such a fabulous husband, father, grandfather and friend. We had not idea that it has been months since he passed away. We are so sad and shocked to hear and wanted you and your family to please accept our deepest sympathy and condolences. Mickey will always be remembered with a big smile on his face, always a joke and a great greeting for us each time we saw him. A guy everyone loved and will miss.

Dear Mrs. Levitt and family, we were very sorry to hear about Mickey's passing, which we learned about from Terry Clark, Dean of the College of Business at SIU.
I served with Mickey on the Board since he joined the Board in 2002, and want you to know it was a pleasure to work with Mickey and to know him. He was very bright, very knowledgeable, and had a fine sense of humor. We will miss him.
Sincerely,

Many years ago I managed the Claim Company restaurant in Northbrook Court and had the absolute honor and pleasure of getting to know Mickey and his family. People like Mickey are rare to come by, and while it has been years since I have seen him, I do know the world is just not the same without him in it. My deepest and kindest thoughts to his wonderful family. Nancy (Schuett) Steen

Diane, Danny, Josh, Steve and the Levitt family.
I first knew Mickey as Mr Levitt, he was Danny's father and lived down the street. As kids we knew if we went "to the Levitt's" it was going to be fun! He never failed to have something "New" in the trunk of his car, just like opening a treasure chest. I remember when he gave my sister a label maker. My oldest sister, Laura, would babysit for Danny. Then we moved, but our families still stayed in touch. Every 4th of July Broadview had a block party. And guess who's house it was at... he was always the life of the party! The Bicentennial Year Josh was a baby and Mickey was pushing him in his stroller and walking around with him. Mickey was so proud. He even had sparklers!
A couple of years later they had moved to Rice and now I was babysitting for Danny and Josh. They always had the best toys! It was when I started babysitting that Mickey gave me my name... Provoski! Every New Years Day there was the party at the Levitt's. The bowl games were on, kids were running all over playing and the food!!! The food was incredible! I remember when Steve was born! Mickey was so happy. We didn't see to much of the Levitt's when I was in high school. But after high school I started to babysit Josh and Steve. By this time they had moved to Bannockburn. This is when I started to call him Mickey! I think I was there every weekend. In the summer we would swim, then at about 3:00 Mickey would say "who's hungry?" We would get in the car and go get something to eat.
Cubs tickets! I think Josh and I would go to 15 to 20 games a year. Mickey didn't have to let us use them, but we did! He wouldn't think of letting you pay for them! Or for anything else.
He was so proud of his family and when he talked about them you could see a change in his demeanor. He would give a bigger smile and sit up straighter and he never tired of talking about his grandchildren and how they were driving him "nuts"! The last time I saw him, he pulled out his iPad and started showing me all of their pictures and telling me about each one and what each one liked to do. A proud Papa!
I know Mickey has touched so many people with his humor, and generosity. And the world has lost one of the best.
Love and miss you Mickey...

you are told that as a mother or father, you are not supposed to have a "favorite" child, and i would suppose as a doctor that rule should hold true, no favorite patients...but, getting the privilege to treat mickey was such a treat its impossible not to claim he was an OFFICE FAVORITE...what a nice nice nice man...we would drive up to our chiropractic office and no matter how early we got here, mickey was outside waiting for us...if we got here at 5:15 he was sitting in his car, if we got here at 5 am, he was sitting waiting, you could not beat him to the office...he was handsome, and kind, and funny, and he gave us nicknames, crackem, and stickem, and he never ever called us anything but our nicknames...our staff loved him, we loved him. he will be missed by many and we are on that list. love you mickey, rest in peace.
