"6 Degrees of seperation", they say, and so it is.

Mr. Bynum, though we never met, pieces of your kindness have been poured into my life. You and my mother were highschool friends, you mentored my cousin, and worked with my aunt and sister. With your name, I have always heard beautiful things about your work within the Chicago Public School system and within the community at large. They say our Black leaders are no more, but in knowing your work and your memory, I respectfully stand to differ. You are a leader, teacher, provider, father. You will be missed and your place unfilled. So many Dunbar students' lives changed and molded because you stood for them. Sir, I am proud.

Michelle, your daughter, became my friend in highschool and again in college (Hampton University, VA.). We often laughed at the thought that you and my mother were friends, and we sealed another generation of friendship by the history of yours. You should be proud Mr. Bynum. By having known Michelle, it is evident that you have created a strong legacy of education, will, and sheer beauty. You have done God's work. Thank you.

May God bless you and your family, in your acceptance to greater realms. You are mourned, celebrated, and loved.

Michelle, I pray for you. Please know that you are on my mind, especially in this time. Be strong beautiful one. Be strong.

I sign this on behalf of Brenda L. (Smith) Tillman and family, Tiffany Tillman, and Dr. Octavia (Smith) Coleman and family, Chicago, Il.

It deeply saddened me to hear that Mr. Bynum had passed. I found out on the night of his funeral. It was only a few weeks ago when I saw him at Salem Baptist Church of Chicago (House of Hope) when they (Salem) were honoring Paul Laurence Dunbar during Black history month. I had the pleasure of having him as a teacher for Algebra w/Trig in 1997 and for College Algebra in 1998. Mr. Bynum encouraged his students with potential by making them work harder. He always had me laughing and that is what I will miss about him. It was fun having him as a teacher and he was always easy to talk to. Sorry for your loss Bynum family, but Mr. Bynum is definitely in a better place!!! GOD BLESS!!!

To the Bynum family. I will keep you in my prayers. I had the privilege of having Mr. Bynum for a math class in 98 and he instantly became one of my favorite teachers at Dunbar. I did get to see him a couple of weeks ago at Salem Church and he was smiling and cracking jokes as usual. :) I will always remember that about him. He will greatly be missed and I'm glad I had the pleasure of knowing him.

Mr. Bynum, it has been an honor and a privilege to have known you for the past four years. When in your presence I always felt the need to be on top of my game. While at Dunbar, especially my senior year(class of 2005), you expressed so much concern in the success of my classmates and myself. Now as I continue my educational career at NIU, I will forever remember your smile and encouraging words to always stay focused and on top of my game on and off the court. Thanks for being an inspiration in my life.

Mr.Bynum, (Michael) You are and will always be a blessing to me and my girls program, GIGLES. DUNBAR, my own alumni is where we got our first start with your support and prayers. As we continue to grow and develop, you will remain close to our hearts because you believed in my girls and my program. God has blessed us with your presence, your smile and your friendship and now that He has brought you home, please watch over my girls as they go in separate directions, trying to become the women we envisioned them to be, the leaders we believe they are and the friends we showed them how to be. May God continue to bless your family as they strive to go on without you. Your friendship was a blessing. Dunbar will miss your awesome stature, but you left a legacy behind that is hard to forget. On behalf of the GIGLES Program, we say thank you for your treasured support.

I would like to wish the family my condolences and well wishes. It is always hard to get over the passing of a person you loved so much but he is now with his maker and he is telling him "job well done my son", although Michael will not be here in body he will be here in mind, heart and spirit, and that can not be taken from you. Times like these are to bring families closer because that's what Michael would have wanted. Don't look at this untimely passing as a lose for offense but a gain for the defense and with God on the defense that's the right team to be on. I will pray for you all. God Bless You.

Mr Bynum was a man i met my final two years at Kenwood Academy. He was a great assistant principal, who was more like an uncle to me. Mr Bynum will be truly missed. To the Bynum family this is real hard for me to accept. Its hard to stomach this feeling because Mr. Bynum was more than an assistant principal he was an true uncle and one of the few people to put all of his faith and trust behind me that I would make it and be successful in life. His kindness as well as the family kind advice torwards my family and I will always be remembered as i sit here in sorrow I remember the last time I saw in December and he told me to continue to succeed in everything in life and to always remember that when I needed to talk about anything he was always there to talk. So to the family my heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to the fullest and through this hard period and I always want you to know that I will be here when u need me

God Bless
