This is for Michael. We were lucky enough to be his architect for
his last two homes. In the course of that, Michael became a true
friend, admired and respected by those of us who worked with and
for him.
He was always extremely grateful for what we had done for him, and it made me want to do more.
Months would go by when I did not see him or talk to him, but when we met, it was immediately warm and present, as if we had never been apart. He was always anxious to know what was new with me, and I with him. He was a kind and open man who made you want to be open in return. He brought out the best in us.
Lately, we had become closer, and in the throughs of his illness
he made time to visit a couple of houses with me, confidentially
sharing his condition but without complaint and asking me to
keep his confidence. He had no need to come with me, given his
condition, but I knew he wanted to--for life, for hope, and for
our friendship.
I miss him and will miss him. I hope his family may enjoy the homes
he created, and think of his commitment to their lives. I will always
remember and cherish the gift of the warm friendship he gave me.

The first time we met, you picked me up in the Prius after my bike broke. I don't think it took five minutes to start talking Pearl Jam, and it took two glasses of wine to talk Vincent Cassel. I will never forget your messages, always given with subtly and sincerity, that I can and would accomplish more than I realized. I am forever blessed to call you family.

My sincere condolences to the family and friends of Michael. May time soften your pain until all that remain is the wonderful memories you've shared and the comfort of God Psalms 119:76.

I will miss seeing your smiling face after our ocean swims at East Beach. We sat down with you and your visiting sister in '15 and talked about our awesome trip to Chicago and our shared love of the Grateful Dead. It was clear how much you loved your children. It was clear you loved your work. Glad to have known you Michael.
