Matthew Swidergal Obituary

Swidergal, Matthew S. 90, of Posen, IL, passed away peacefully at home, October 28, 2010. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Valeria (nee Kosciak) (1984) and seven brothers and sisters. Survived by his loving children: Matthew (Lynn Crosby), Robert (Karen), Ronald (Kathi), Richard (Lois), Marilyn Ponder, Stanley, Sally, Thomas (Lorie), Valerie (Robert) Dorsey, Terrence (Kathy), Dorothy (Faustino) Baratta, Darlene (Thomas) Godin, cherished grandfather of 20, great-grandfather of five, fond uncle of many, also survived by five sisters-in-law (Victoria, Mary, Helen Surdej, Sue, Dolores McNamara). Matt served his nation in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He was a member of the IBEW Local 134 for 63 years, The American Legion Post 990 and District 8, the Forty & Eight, Amvets, Polish National Alliance, and Polish Roman Catholic Union of America. Matt served his community in the Fire Department, Park District, and Little League. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Church and the Holy Name Society, Bremen Booster Club, and The Loyal Order of Moose. He had volunteered over 5000 hours at Oak Forest Hospital, and earned the Sheriff's Senior Medal of Honor Award in April 1995. Memorial Service will be held at St. Stanislaus Parish on Sunday, November 28, 2010, at 3:00 p.m. Interment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at a later date.
