Dear Suba Family:

What a shock to look at the obituaries and see Matthew's name. Unfortunately I was not in Chicago at the time of his wake and funeral.

The last time I saw Matt was as a youngster. He was the ring bearer at my wedding to his uncle John in 1957. I remember him as a darling boy with a twinkle in his eye. I have photos of Matthew, his sister Antoinette and myself at Riverview Amusement Park, posing in an "old car" photograph.

Because I was not in the family for that long, I lost contact, but from reading all the notes in this book--I see Matt grew up to be a wonderful husband, father and friend--just as I knew he would be!

My deep sympathy to his wife, and children--as well as his sister Antoinette, brothers John & Guy. I am sure that the loss of a sibling is heartbreaking.

Bobbie, Michele and Nick,
It is so hard to believe that Matt is no longer here with us. We didn't get to see each other that often, but when we did Matt always made us laugh. All the Father's Day get togethers at your house were so wonderful and Matt always went out of his way to make sure he had our favorites. We will treasure the kind words he spoke of our children. Matt was an individual, a one-of-a-kind guy and we will truly miss him.

To leave a lasting impression on people in this world is a tough thing to do, but that's what my godfather Uncle Matt did. The memories will last forever, the stories will be told over and over again. Your spirit will always be with us. I guess you'll have to drop that mitt you promised me as a young ballplayer down from heaven.

God Bless the Suba family. We love you.

I can't even begin to tell the Suba family how saddened I am to read this such sad news. It's been forever since I've talked to any of the Suba family members. Once my Mom passed away(Madeline Giammarrusco Fontana D'or) we lost all contact with family and friends of that era. I have so many many fond memories of the old days. Toni remember going to the flying carpet and us kids played cards in the rooms until the wee hours. We thought who we were, and you were the leader because you were the eldest. You made us feel so special, we laughed the night away, fond memories. My sister Linda and I will keep you all in our prays. Lois Uebele, Linda Calabrese, and my brother Joe in Florida.

My condolences to the entire Suba family. I helped both Matt and his father Andy at the Tribune before working with Guy at the Times. I'll always remember Matts sly little laugh and smile. The world has lost a man who new how to have fun and share that fun with others. R.I.P. Matt!

Many years ago when our family moved out to the suburbs, we had a big party. My Aunt Bobbie and Uncle Matt and Michele spent the night, and in the morning, Uncle Matt and I were cleaning up the yard. We didn't know much about charcoal grills, and we emptied the coals from the night before into a plastic garbage bag that I was holding. Needless to say, the coals burned right through the bag and burned the tops of my feet. Uncle Matt felt so bad that this happened and every time I saw him he would apologize and then we would laugh about it. We will surely miss his style and character at all our family functions. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Bobbie, Michele, and Family,

Please accept our sincerest condolences at this time. Your loss is God's reward.
Matt's passion was always his family. It was always prevalent when we saw you together at the Drivers event. Diane and I would always comment on what a great couple you were. In conversation, he always kept us updated on the family and what was happening.
My personal friendship with Matt was second to none. We worked side by side for many years and our Tribune family will miss him dearly. He was such a special character. His legacy will always live on at the Tribune and in our hearts.
I feel so fortunate to say, the last time he visited us at the Tribune on that early Saturday morning, I hugged him, gave him a kiss on his cheek, and told him I love him.
Matt was a great friend that will be missed for an eternity.

Love, The Klepadlo Family
