I was a parishioner at St. Paul of the Cross parish in Park Ridge, IL where Fr. Gamber was assigned as a priest. A very holy man! He was extremely instrumental in the Eucharistic adoration chapel at our parish being established. He made an incredible impact in the years he was a priest at the parish. Thanks be to God for his life and ministry!

We loved Fr.Matt dearly and can’t believe he is gone. He had a profound effect on our marriage, our 9 kids, and friends. We shared many discussions around our large kitchen table, Not to mention rosaries and meals over the last 20 years. Cincinnati will not be the same without him. And our lives will feel the void forever. Fr Matt was always our biggest supporter and best idea guy for the Catholic Shop. His frequent unannounced “stop ins” to the Shop and our home will be sorely missed. There are no words to express our deep sadness. He was generous to a fault, brilliant in more ways than academic, and had a profound and orthodox grip on the Church and her authentic teachings. He suffered much for this. His devotion to Our blessed Mother and St Joseph was inspiring. We send our sincere condolences to his family. May the Angels lead you into paradise soon, dear friend. Please pray for us and we look forward to the day when we will see you again.

Fr. Gamber was a special friend and confidant. We spoke many times in his last weeks. I will never forget when he visited for dinner how scared he was to depart from his car (knowing i owned a dog ;). Once he discovered my dog was 5-Ibs 1oz(dripping wet) we both chuckled and enjoyed a wonderful italian meal. He always made one feel at home. May the repose of his soul rest in peace. We miss you already, Fr., God bless to all in mourning. Your friend in Cinci

Father Gamber was an amazing man and priest who was a rock for our family through my father's illness and death. He flew to Florida to say preside over the wake, funeral mass and burial for my dad on three separate days. He was an amazing man who we always looked forward to seeing on his visits. May he rest in peace.

“Self-giving, loving trust, abandonment, deep affection, piety, a love which is a joyful submission to the will of God and an active charity to fellow men.”
Hosea 4 footnote (r)
“hesed”. God’s love for man and man’s love for fellow-men.
An apt description of Father Matt. I will remember his kindness to all. Connection was easy with this gentle Spirit.

Dearest Gamber Family, It is so hard to say goodbye! Matt was such a beacon of light! He lite every room no matter what the circumstances. Even now at his death he will bring people together and stories and fond memories will be traded! Laughter and that Gamber smile will be what I remember most. His kind words and the way he always made me think positively! When I needed a GOOD sounding board I called The Fr. He would say “Colleen Kelly, how the heck are you.”
Well Matt, Fr Matt.... Thanks for the good advice. I won’t forget what you told me....Faith, Family and Friends and everything else will fall into place! I know when I need to talk you will still be shining that bright light of yours to tell us all you are listening! Have fun and tell HP I miss him! Xoxo Colleen Gill

Oh Matt! I should say Oh Father Matt. You are in Paradise today and yet we mourn you deeply. So the Lord called you home on Pope Day. Is that because you did such a good job on those petitions at the Vatican Mass? And three Master's degrees! Two weren't enough? Can we say overachiever? Above all the things you accomplished in your exemplary and too-brief life were these: beloved son and brother, friend and priest to so many of us, and above all, a person for others in the long tradition of Ignatius Loyola. Tell Father Beall I say hi and his glasses are clean and save me a beer if I ever make it out of Purgatory. Slainte.

It was my blessing to serve with Fr. Gamber at Jesuit High School of Tampa. His knowledge of the world and theology was beyond compare. His compassion for others and ministry to all was based on the walk of Jesus Christ. Rest in Peace.

Rest in peace Fr. Matt. I have no doubt you're experiencing the promises Our Lord give to those who love Him, and seeing Him as He truly is. Pray for us who remain to serve Him as He deserves to be served, to give without counting the costs, to know that we are doing His will.

I met Father Gamber only once for mass. He blessed my engagement and immediately I was aware of his dedication to our Lord. He was a good priest. May he join the saints and rest in the sleep of peace.
