Marykutty Alexander Obituary

Surrounded by her family, Marykutty (Lily) Alexander left this earth to begin her life as an angel in Heaven Saturday May 11, 2013. Daughter of the late K.L. and Mariamma Joseph Puthuserikalayil, Lily was born in Punnathura, Kottayam District, Kerala, India on May 25, 1937. After completing her initial education at St. Joseph's Primary School and St. Thomas High School, she went on to attend Nursing School at Irwin Group Hospital in Jamnagar, Gujurat, India and graduated in 1961. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Lily touched many lives as a compassionate nurse. She began nursing at LTMG Hospital in Mumbai, India from 1960 - 1971. Before immigrating to the United States, Lily was joined in marriage to Mr. V.M. Alexander Njavallil, Palai. In 1971 she continued her nursing career at Metropolitan City Hospital in New York and was later joined by her husband and settled in the Bronx, New York. Soon, she was blessed with her beautiful children, Sheeba and Mathew. in addition to her roles as a wife and mother, she advanced her education by completing her degree as an RN at St. Joseph's College, Brooklyn, NY in 1984. She then moved to the VA Hospital in the Bronx, NY and remained there until she retired in 1997. A loving and dedicated mother, Lily selflessly devoted her life to her family and friends, which to her were on in the same. She was known for her simple acts of kindness and was never without a warm smile for family, friends and strangers alike. Lily Alexander is survived by her beloved husband and children. She is also survived by her loving siblings, Sr. Rev. Marietta, Sebastian Puthuserikalayil, Cicily Chacko and family. Words cannot express the tremendous loss to our family and friends as Lily moves on to take her place in Heaven; along with her late parents, eldest brother the late John Joseph, and her late sisters Chinnamma Anthony and Gracey Jose. Our only comfort is that she will continue to be with us, to guide us in our lives. Lily will continue on in our hearts as a beacon of light and strength. may her kindness and spirit live on in our memories and remain an inspiration to us all.

I'm a co-worker of Matts, Lily's son and just wanted to say how sorry I am for your loss. I didn't know Matts Mom but Matt has always seemed to be a warm, Honest, caring person and those fine attributes can only come from a warm home with a wonderful Mom who I'm sure will be sorely missed. To the Alexander Family, my deepest condolences and prayers.
