Mrs. Randa passed away peacefully of natural causes May 22, 2015 at King Bruwaert House. Widely known for her involvement in Rich Port (the former West Suburban) YMCA, where she was a Charter Member, she was also a registered physical therapist, a published author and an avid golfer. Mrs. Randa earned the YMCA's Outstanding Program, Service to Youth and Volunteer Service awards and was named to the La Grange facility's Hall of Honor. She served on the YMCA's Board of Directors for nearly 40 years, was Chairperson of the Women's Program Committee and the annual June Rose Breakfast, was a member of the YMCA's Chicagoland Volleyball League team and was a volunteer volleyball and track coach. A longtime member of Ruth Lake Country Club in Hinsdale, she played in four Northern Illinois Women's Golf Association Senior Amateur championships, and was a member of the Ruth Lake CDGA women's golf team. Her proudest moment in golf came on a Sunday afternoon in 1978 when she scored a hole-in-one on the 18th hole with a crowd of people looking on from the Ruth Lake porch. Mrs. Randa was a more than 50-year member of the Presbyterian Church of Western Springs where she sang in the choir and was a former member of the Board of Directors for the Longboat Terrace Condominium Association in Longboat Key, FL and the American Association of University Women. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Donald J. Randa, former co-owner of LIFE Newspapers. She is survived by her son, Larry Randa (Deborah) of Lemont; and her daughter, Lynne Dougherty of Fairlawn, OH; four grandchildren, Matthew Dougherty (Crystal) of Hilliard, OH, Jen Reyes (Steven) of Naperville, Jill Tester (Greg) of Verona, WI, and Katie Zuercher (Jared) of Akron, OH; seven great-grandchildren; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Mrs. Randa's name to the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, IL, Mote Marine Laboratories in Longboat Key, FL, or the Presbyterian Church of Western Springs. Arrangements were handled by Adolf Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Willowbrook.
