Mary Longbrake Obituary

Longbrake, Mary Born November 23, 1913, in Marysville, OH, to Mark Longbrake and Buretta Shields Longbrake, died August 16, 2011, in Park Ridge, IL. She is survived by her sister, Gladys Masnerus, of Libertyville; a great-niece, Janice Pytel, of Skokie; and numerous other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and by two sisters, Janice L. Meyer Vorbeck and Dorothy L. Jenkins Roberts. Mary attended Lake Forest College, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1935. She was elected a Trustee of Lake Forest College in 1969 and became a Life Trustee in 1978. She was a member of the first U.S. Naval Reserves WAVES class during World War II (1941 to 1946), retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Employed by The Northern Trust Bank, she was the first female to become Second Vice President of the bank in 1968. Appointed Vice President in 1973, she retired in 1979. She served on the Boards of The Kobe College Corporation, The Irvin L. Young Foundation, The Chicago Commons, The Eleanor Foundation, and The Women's Board of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Memorial Gathering Monday, September 12, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m., at HABEN Funeral Home & Crematory, 8057 Niles Center Rd., Skokie. Family and friends will meet for a Memorial Service Tuesday, September 13, at 11 a.m., at Lily Reid Holt Memorial Chapel of Lake Forest College (Middle Campus).
