I was blessed with the best mom in the world. My mom's job was to take care of her husband and children. She was an expert at doing both. She taught us values and the love of God, family and country. My mom was kind to everyone and was always helping someone out. Her role as grandma was also done well. She loved each and everyone of her grandchildren, treating all of them equally. When a grandchild got married, mom just added one more blessing to her life. She welcomed the newcomer to the family right away with open arms. She also loved her great grandchildren, who loving called her Grandma Mia. They talked about America, Eagles and Cardinals and what her life was like growing up. There were always Oreos and Cowtails to be had at her home. She was the best caretaker when it came to dad. When dad passed, mom took his place in the chair by the window watching for company and waving at all guests. She was truly a treasure. She is with dad now in heaven and with her 4 children who passed before her. I know she is happy and that I will see her again someday. For now I cherish the memories she left behind. I thank God that I was her daughter, her friend and her neighbor. I just want to say one more time; Mom I love you more than you love me.

It's been difficult over the past year pulling up and not seeing you across the street in the window. It's sad but then I think about all of the great memories and I find comfort. I'm happy and blessed to have known you. I love you and miss you very much.

I consider myself very lucky to have my grandparents live across the street from me as I was growing up. Unlike most children, we spent so much time with them and they were just a part of literally everything we did. What I miss most with Grandma being gone is all the little things. Lunch with her, talking and hearing her stories of when she was a child, vacationing with her, parties at her house, her advice even when I didn't ask for it, and her honesty. She was a stubborn, kind and loving person who loved her family with everything she was. I miss seeing her in the window saying her prayers and waving to us as we left. I miss her everyday.

There was a consistency and comfort in going "across the street". I could kid and tease Grandma and she would always go right back at me. She was 1/2 of the pillar which was the Lahey/Moore family and I always admired the strength in the family in which I married. I will miss seeing her in the window, miss seeing her camping, miss her at the Lahey/Moore functions at her house, and miss her asking how I was doing and how the family was doing. She always prayed and cared about so many people before herself which is what I admired about her. God bless you Mary Lahey. I'll miss you so much and thank you for letting me into your family with open arms. I love you and miss you.

Grandma Mia, I loved watching you say your prayers by the window while watching the birds. I miss how you would wave to us when we got to your house and when we would leave. I will never forget the cookies in the corner cabinet you would give us even if my mom said no. I love and miss you so much!

"Across the street" meant everything to me. It was where I could find my grandparents. I was so very lucky to have grown up with them so close. My grandma was always there for me. She would tell the best stories from her earlier years. I loved listening to them, even if it was the tenth time I heard them. Whenever I went into her house, I would go straight to her corner cabinet in hopes that there were cookies and I was never disappointed. Grandma loved her family. She especially loved when everyone was together. I miss her everyday. I miss her vacationing with us. I miss her smiling face in her kitchen window. I just want to hold her hand one more time and tell her that I love her.

To say that I'm sad is an understatement, my heart hurts because a large piece is missing. This piece is made up of some of the most wonderful memories that I have and I am lucky to say that my grandparents were part of those memories. I know that I didn't grow up in my grandparent's house, but they were definitely like my second parents most of my life. One street is all that separated us. My grandma was easily one of the most amazing woman that I know. She was one tough German woman. She is the reason that we are all here today. She is the reason why we got to have the many, many years Grandpa. She was selfless, constantly taking care of everyone around her. I will miss her sitting in her window watching the birds. I will miss walking in her home and going right to the cookie jar to grab an Oreo. I will miss her stories about when she was younger and living in the city and taking the street car or hearing about her dating grandpa or working at the ice cream shop. I may have heard each story 10 or 20 times, but those stories never get old. It made her so happy to talk about those fun days. I would give anything to hear those stories again. I will miss my Tuesday and Friday lunch dates. Grandma wanted nothing more than a Portillos chop salad, it was her favorite. I consider myself so lucky to be able to have those days with her. I feel so blessed to have had all of my children meet and get to know Grandma or as they call her Grandma Mia. Actually, when I would go over there by myself, the first question would be, where are the boys? Nothing made her happier to see the great grandchildren playing at her house. Grandma's house is empty now, but still holds so many memories for me. I will miss Grandma, but I will never forget her.

Gram was such a beautiful person inside and out. She had the patience of a saint. We have had so many fun times and memories to reflect on. As much as we miss you, Gram, we know you are now with the love of your life, Gramps, Aunt Maureen and the rest of your family and friends that have passed on. We will meet again one day and perhaps do a shot ski or two in Heaven! When we were with you your final days, you would put your hand on my pregnant belly and tell me, "You're going to have your hands full!". You were right, and for that reason, among many more, our daughter Mikaela carries the middle name Mia after you. Although, you know just as well, as you always stated in the Dells, Lukey is the wild one! We love you Grandma Mia!

I am lost everyday without my mom. She was a incredible mom and I miss her everyday. She gave her up her life to raise all of us and never complained about do that. Her family was her world and the most important part of her life. She always put everyone before her and that is the one fault I could say about my mom. She took care of dad until we call came along and then after we all started to move on she was back to caring for dad up until the day is passed. She was always by his side no matter what. As a mom myself I marvel at how she lost 4 children but still keep her strong faith in God. She was my hero and I can only hope that I am as good of a mom to my son as she was to her children. Mom I know you are with Dad, the love of your life and that is where you wanted to be. Until we meet again I will keep you close to my heart and use your rosary to keep prayer for your family. I LOVE YOU MOM!!!!

I am so sorry for your loss. Frank and I thought so highly of your Mom and Dad. I know how difficult it is to lose someone you love, especially within a family as close and loving as yours. Right now your loss is so painful and your grief so overwhelming, but I pray in time that the beautiful memories and love of your Mom will fill the hole in your hearts. May Jesus comfort you and bless you with the image of His arms and John's wrapped around her with everlasting love and peace.
Bless you,

I never met Mary, but I feel I've met some of the best parts of her, through her children, grandchildren and their extended family. Through them, Mary has had an unmatched presence at the Avon Chicago walks to fight breast cancer, and contributed to the love and sense of family that keeps bringing the Route Safety Team together year after year. My heart, and the hearts of thousands of walkers, have been touched by the family she has raised and inspired, and by the love and compassion she has taught them to share with others.
