Mary Hall Obituary

Sept. 24, 1923 - May 10, 2013
SOUTH BEND - Mary Savery Hall, 89, died with courage and grace of pneumonia surrounded and loved by her family on May 10, 2013 at the St. Lucie Medical Center, Port St. Lucie, Florida. She was born in South Bend, Indiana on September 24, 1923, to Dr. Charles and Mary Savery. She grew up in South Bend, attending Central High School and Ferry Hall in Lake Forest, IL. She graduated from Lasell College in Auburndale, MA, outside of Boston, in 1943. Upon graduation, she returned to her beloved Midwest, to Chicago, IL. There, she attended the Art Institute and worked as a secretary. She met her future husband at this time, Dr. James Hall, and married. Upon completion of his residency they moved back to South Bend and he joined her father's medical practice. Here they lovingly raised four children, Elizabeth Hall-Moitoza, married to Everett Moitoza and living in Rye, NH; James, Jr.; John, married to Sheila Hall; and Mike, of Port St. Lucie, FL. She spent the last 25 winters in Port St. Lucie, FL, and moved there permanently in 2005. She was predeceased by her husband James in 1982, her son James, Jr. in 1972, and her son John in 2005. Mary was a devoted and committed golfer for years at South Bend Country Club as well as at Club Med in Port St. Lucie, FL. She was an avid bridge player and member of the South Bend Junior League, where she devoted herself to volunteer work. She was the ultimate loving wife, mother, and friend and her family was the most important part of her life. She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth and her son-in-law Everett Moitoza; her son Mike; her grandchildren John Hall, Jr., Lauren Hall, Melissa Johnson, and Will and Matthew Moitoza; as well as seven great-grandchildren. She will be sorely loved and missed by her family and many loving friends. She brought so much joy to all who knew her. A celebration of life was held at the Martin Funeral Home and Crematorium in Port St. Lucie on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, from 1:00-3:00. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 22nd in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. The family will receive friends in the funeral home on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to The First Tee, 425 S. Legacy Tr., St. Augustine, FL 32092. The First Tee is a national organization dedicated to teaching the game of golf, along with its core values, to children of all circumstances. Betsy,

We were all thinking of you during this sad time. I let Marney's daughter (in Idaho) know of your mothers passing. And Jim Lineback knew also. --Your mother picked a lovely area to retire to and it sounds like she enjoyed her life to the fullest.

Jimmy and I will see each other again this July for our JAHS reunion. (He and his wife drove out when my mother passed away last summer.) I know he would like to stay in touch with you.

Take care, Judy Shook

Elizabeth I know this is a difficult time for you. No matter what age our loved one it always seems too soon. I love the memory of your mom late in her 80's sharp as a tack giving golf instructions from her golf cart. So sharp and so right on with her stroke-saving tips. Blessings to you all. May she experience an eternity of "pars".
