Marjorie Hines Obituary

Hines, Marjorie Bear

Marjorie B. Hines passed away peacefully after a long illness at her home in Chicago at age 92. She was the beloved wife of John L. Hines to whom she was married for 57 years. She was also the adored mother of Susan Oberndorf (Bill) of San Francisco and Neil Coleman (Rochele) of Harbor Springs, Michigan. Mrs. Hines had six grandchildren Angela Coleman, Claudia Coleman, Jonas Coleman, Natalie Coleman (Alex), Peter Oberndorf and Will Oberndorf (Yael), who all loved her dearly and with whom she thoroughly enjoyed spending time. She was also the stepmother of John Hines Jr. (Lauren) and Mary Bendix (Rick). During her declining years of health, Mrs. Hines was cared for by Daniela Cantu to whom the family wishes to extend their deep and profound thanks. Mrs. Hines was born in Akron, Ohio to Leona and Sidney Bear. As a young woman, she moved to Chicago with her then-husband Delbert Coleman from whom she would later divorce. Mrs. Hines' intelligence and outgoing personality made her a well-liked member of the Chicago community from the moment she arrived. This led to her serving on numerous boards. Very recently she was honored for 40 years of service as a director of the Rush Center Women's Board. She also served on the Women's Board of the Field Museum and the costume committee of the History Museum. Once her children were raised, Mrs. Hines decided to begin a career and became director of fashion and publicity for Bonwit Teller. After that, she became head of corporate gifts at Tiffany & Co. In both positions, she enjoyed great success. Services for Mrs. Hines will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Rush Medical Center.
