Dear Ricco and Angelo: A year has passed and that seems inconceivable. Mario has always and is always in our thoughts and prayers. His joy of family and friends always showed on his face and of course his smile and laughter. May the time come where life can be of sweet and loving memories and not sadness. Never to be forgotten, always in our hearts. Please contact us. We'd like to keep in touch. We love you. Diane and Al Sofiakis

Mario,

I am sure that by now you have found your spot at the “club” with the angels.

Although we are saddened by your passing, your cordial and friendly demeanor; uncanny ability to exchange pleasantries; and tell a story and bring it to life will live on and remain an indelible part of you. These fond memories will continue to bring a smile to those who have ever enjoyed the pleasure of your company.

In Memory of Uncle Mario

As your oldest nephew, I had the benefit of spending the most time and sharing many experiences with you. Upon reflection, your life served a great purpose to all those who knew you well.

When our grandparents immigrated to this country, while still at a tender age and as the oldest son, you put to work your keen street sense and natural people skills to ensure that your family did not lack anything. You made the ultimate sacrifice, for your family and your new country, by serving in the Vietnam War. Your energy, free spirit, and ability to interact with people from all walks of life, made you successful as a salesman and in the businesses that you launched from ground zero. As always, you willingly and generously shared your bounty with those dear to you.

Your memorable moments and natural pass time came from being with family and friends, making sure that all ate and drank merrily. We were prematurely deprived of sharing more enjoyable times with you. I am sorry that we were unable to do more and we were unsuccessful in helping you overcome your illness. The decisions made to facilitate your treatment and recovery were the right ones. We were all proud of the way you reformed and demonstrated a great will to live. You deserved a better outcome. Your loss is marginally tempered knowing, as you told me, that you lived a great life and you lived it your way.

In a self-centered world where many focus on material possession, your heart and generous spirit are refreshing and serve as an example for all. You always put your family before yourself and you realized that true happiness comes from giving more than receiving. As you look upon us now, reach down to guide us with this spirit that came so natural to you. We will miss your physical presence on this earth but look forward to the gift of your continued giving spirit. We take great comfort knowing that your soul rests in peace in heaven! Thank you Mario.

Your grateful and loving nephew,

Jerry

Angelo and family,
I would like to offer you my deepest sympathy. I met your brother in the late 70's when John Delauretis brought me to Dino's. I was looking for a job and he hired me on the spot. I only worked there for a few months, but for the next almost 30 years we talked about everytime we seen each other. He was always concerned and considerate of me and always offered me valuable guidance. I know the last months have been difficult, but soon all of that will be forgotten and all that will remain are wonderful memories of a great man. I know that I will have some wonderful memories.

Paone Family, my deepest sympathy go out to all. Mario was one of a KIND! He will be missed.

Sincerely, Jim Arvia
