Marilyn O'Dea Obituary

O'Dea, Marilyn

We're sad to announce the passing of Marilyn O'Dea on April 20th, 2021 at the age of 80. Her courage, optimism and humor inspired three generations of family and friends. Marilyn was born on May 25th, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois. She is remembered for her patience, support and unconditional love, which inspired those who knew her to overcome life's obstacles and be their best self. Even in the face of great struggle, she was able to find the silver lining in any situation. Marilyn had an unconventional outlook on life that she displayed through an irreverent sense of humor. She also enjoyed expressing her creativity and wit through art and writing. She was an amazing mother to Peggy Davison, Frank O'Dea (Mary), Beverly Cushing (Tom) and Sandy Doolan (Joe), a supportive and sometimes inspiringly goofy grandma to Casey (Chris), Ben, Sara (Matthew), Ryan, Joe, Megan, Connor, and honorary grandson Michael Williams. The birth of great granddaughter Roux brought her immense joy. She always had a special relationship with her nieces Arlene, Georgiana, Jaqueline and nephew Tom. We will miss her random, sometimes incoherent texts and the pure joy on her face when we surprised her with visits. The family is planning a private memorial. In lieu of flowers Marilyn requested donations in her name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

I was so sad to hear of the passing of your Mom. She was a very special person and helped to influence my younger self. I will always think of her as a second Mom.

I am so sorry for the loss of your dear Marilyn. I am a friend of Bev through her husband, Tom. From the photos I have seen, she has the same beautiful smile and light in her eyes that have been passed to Bev. May love and comfort find you all. ((HUGS))
