Every Wednesday night my grandparents went to visit great-grandpa and -grandma. The four of them would play pinocle in the kitchen and talk over cake and coffee. Grandpa would put the TV on for me, because God knows he was the only one who knew how to work it with all those remotes! I always loved those nightly visits to their house. I always felt comfortable and warm, always welcome.

On the second Wednesday after my great-grandpa passed away, his son and daughter-in-law still made their trip to the house to keep grandma company. So when my aunt called seeking grandma, as usual I responded, "Their at Grandma and Grandpa's house." And then I caught myself, realizing that it was no longer "grandma and grandpa's house." Grandpa was gone now. For the first time, I understood that things were going to be different, things were changing. It's the little things that changed the most. It's the things like not seeing Grandpa sitting in his chair watching TV. Not being able to play pinocle in the kitchen every Wednesday anymore. Not seeing him turn on his stereo at a party and know exactly the right music to play. And every now and then you'll notice that the little things about this family that used to give you pleasure have changed because he is no longer with us.

In our hearts, we will hold those little happy memories forever and smile whenever we think of him. Although he is gone, I have faith in my heart that we will see him again. And when we do, it'll be all the sweeter.

Grandpa, I just wanted to tell you that we all love you very much, and you have impacted each of our lives in a different way. We look forward to meeting you again in a happier place when the time comes. I love you, Grandpa.

GRANDPA, I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS REAL. I NEVER THOUGHT OF YOU EVER LEAVING US. IT IS GOING TO BE HARD TO GO TO THE HOUSE AND NOT SEE YOU THERE OR HEAR YOUR MUSIC. I HAVE A LOT OF BEAUTIFUL MEMORIES WITH YOU. LOTS OF PICNICS, PARTIES, CARD GAMES AND HOLIDAY GATHERINGS. THIS FAMILY IS WHAT IT IS TODAY BECAUSE OF YOU. YOU TAUGHT YOUR KIDS FAMILY VALUES AND OUR PARENTS TAUGHT US WHAT YOU TAUGHT THEM. IT ALL STARTS WITH YOU. YOU WILL BE MISSED. I LOVE YOU GRANDPA.

GRANDMA,

YOU ARE SUCH A STRONG WOMAN. WE ALL LOOK UP TO YOU. YOU AND GRANDPA HAVE SHOWN YOUR FAMILY WHAT A MARRIAGE AND FAMILY IS ALL ABOUT. YOU HAVE BEEN THERE FOR ALL YOUR KIDS NO MATTER IF THEY WERE RIGHT OR WRONG. YOU STOOD BY THEM THRU THICK AND THIN. THAT IS WHAT A FAMILY IS ALL ABOUT. GRANDPA AND YOU HAVE BEEN MARRIED FOR 58 YEARS AND YOU MAKE IT LOOK SO EASY. I LOVE YOU GRANDMA.

I see you laying there in front me

Tears begin to fill my eyes, as you lay peacefully

I miss you Grandpa is all I say and then questions raid my head and I ask, why did you have to go?

And slowly one by one, memories begin to flash in front of me like a picture show

You show me a picture of you and your parents and some of your friends

These pictures speak a thousand words and you take me from beginning to end

I can see you on your ship getting ready to sail

Off to fight for our country with a heart of gold and a mind that is set not to fail

I can see you holding your kids the day they were born and each day after

You were always there when they needed you, whether it was to share their tears or their laughter

I can see you next to your many radios and always dancing

Anyone can see your passion just by glancing

I can see you dressed like Santa Claus and handing out gifts

I can see you dressed for work as you begin your next shift

I see you standing next to Grandma, and I can finally see what “True Love” really means

A smile upon your faces that I can not describe, you shared each others laughter and dreams

I can see you smiling with all of your grandchildren standing next to you

You are our hero and we look up to you and everything you do

You show me a picture of us sitting around the kitchen table playing cards and eating sweets

And then we gather with the great grandchildren to watch a movie and make the night complete

So many memories are being shown and now I can see

What I life you lived and somehow I am a little relieved

The show begins to fade and I watch you slowly being lowered into the ground

The tears begin to fall once again and I start to look around

I see everyone here has been touched by you one way or another

You were a devoted husband, a proud father of six, a dedicated grandfather to eighteen, a great grandfather to twenty four, a loving son, a best friend and an unforgettable brother

I know you are in a better place now and you will longer be in pain

Grandpa, I will miss you and I know things can never be the same

I can hear your voice from a distance and I will always remember your face

I feel comforted knowing that you will be watching over me no matter the time or place

Love your granddaughter,

Dear Grandpa,

Every visit to your house was a holiday. Not only major holidays but also birthdays, Bingo nights or card games. I know as we got older and got more involved with our own little families, our visits became less frequent. This did not mean we forgot about you but that we learned from you the importance of family. As we work through our busy lives, we find comfort in our families and the closeness that is maintained amoung your children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. You have managed to touch our lives in ways that will continue to touch many future generations. I believe every person on earth is sent to serve a purpose in their time and you have more than fulfilled your share. We will miss you dearly. As we continue to celebrate your life, we will find our peace in the fact that your pain is gone.

Dearest Grandmother,

Grandpa would have been proud of you! You fulfilled his requests so graciously. I hope you can continue your life with the knowledge that your family and friends cherish your elegance, cheerful smile and great sense of humor. I love you!

You were a motivating force behind many of the things I've done in my life. I owe much of who I am today to you and Grandma because you are the very heart of this family.

We will miss you and I know that every single one of us will carry you and your memory inside of us. Always.

May the memory of your love live in the hearts of those who loved you best.

May the LORD take you in hand to Heaven's great land. Where loved ones before you will welcome you with open arms.

May patience, understanding and serenity be blessed upon your family, so that they may move forward during this time.

May your Wife, Sons, and Daughters remember the laughter, love and special times with you.

May your grandchildren and great-grandchildren feel your love with them as they continue on life's journey.

I hope this message reaches those who will be able to reflect on Margarito's life and remember the good times.
