Margaret McLean Obituary

Margaret Ann McLean was born June 26, 1936 to preacher
parents Robert and Agnes Brown, whose mission field was in
San Antonio, Texas. Margaret grew up with two sisters and four brothers.
At the age of 16, Mom and our Dad, Leslie Aubrey McLean, eloped to
Corpus Christi, lived two years on an Army post in Panama and three years
in Brooklyn, finally settling in Houston. Mom and Dad were married for
53 years before Dad went to be with the Lord in 2006. Their passion was a love
of Jesus, they served at First Baptist Church for over a decade as Sunday school
teachers, were active volunteers at The Star of Hope and ministered to families
in the Third Ward, bringing them to church on Sundays. Mom also acted as a
mother to many of those in the various neighborhoods in which she resided,
including acting as a guarding to Molly, a teenager left on our doorstep by a
woman in crisis.
They moved to Westside Baptist Church where they continued to serve freely
and minister to families nearby and shuttle kids to church. Mom's faith was
the glue that held us together, she served her husband, and family well. She
lived her life always content in her love of the Lord.
Margaret is survived by all six of her siblings Helen San Roman, Kathy Lozano,
Robert Brown, Stuart Brown, Paul Brown and David Brown. And, her four
children-Chris McLean, Vincent McLean (wife Marcia), Tim McLean and
Ruth Ann Johnson (husband Justin), as well as ten grandchildren and one
great grandchild.
Margaret was a giving servant of a mother who loved the Lord, was always
home for her family and continued to love and support them into their adult
lives. She was a prayer warrior who had no interest in material things but
instead gave freely of herself to all she touched in life.
Margaret Ann McLean died at the age of 78 in the arms of our Lord Jesus
Christ and joined her husband in death. Our dear mother will be greatly
missed, but we take comfort knowing she is walking in perfect peace with her
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and has been reunited with her loving husband.

To all Margaret's family and friends. I am one of Margaret's New Jersey cousins, Mary Bainbridge. Her mom, Agnes and my mom, Faith were twins. I have very loving memories of the two families getting together. It was always a load of fun. I have a particularly memory of the time Leslie and Margaret stayed at our house in NJ during their honeymoon. I was pretty young at the time but I clearly recall how much fun they were. In particular, how Margaret could make up such fun and silly things to do. She was just a kid then too. I visited them when then lived in NYC. We were always warmly welcomed. I am certain she has left a huge whole in your lives because of the wonderful loving person she was. I am so sorry for your loss. My heart and prayers go out to each one of you.

I love you so much and miss you . This life won't be the same without you, mom..

The times I remember most of Grandma Margaret were at church and family gatherings. She always spoke with such a sweet tone and would watch little Vincent , Victoria, and I play together.

I have a very fond memory of her telling me why I should not look up at birds flying over head while at a playground after church service.

My Dad, aunt, and uncles are living proof of the person that she was and the kind heart that she shared.

My Dad ( Chris McLean ) and aunt Ruth were having a conversation in a hospital room about the ways grandma Margaret was present in the local community, helping those who had a hard time helping themselves, and getting others back on there feet. What a beautiful person, a strong woman, and an amazing mother she was.

Margaret A. McLean was a lover, a fighter, and a caretaker I have seen the lives for which she had a hand in; peaceful, useful, prosperous, and happy. I see that those lives hold her in sanctuary in their hearts, and in the hearts of generations forward. It is a far, far better thing that she did, than she has ever done; it is a far, far better rest that she goes to, than she has ever known. May her loving spirit live on through the lives that she has touched, and may she forever walk with the LORD in His kingdom.

I love you Grandma.

I have not seen Margaret for over 45 years………….in fact I have not seen many of you for decades, although our lives have crossed paths with some members of our great family in the last years, always with great emotion and love.
Margaret and her husband Leslie left a great mark in my life when I was a teenager.
They were both tall and beautiful and impressive. I was a Mexican teenager trying to understand how come these people, so different to me, could be my cousins !! And they were, as all that extraordinary generation of the San Antonio cousins…….Margaret, Helen, Bobby, Kathy, Stuart, Paul and David.
They made me feel great. They took me, when I was 13 or 14 and, I think, also my sister Vichi to places like the DRIVE- INN……in San Antonio……………we had fun, hamburgers and cokes, all in company with one, maybe two, Boxer dogs between whose heads we watched 1950/60 films.
Her laughter was great and I will always remember her as a fun person. Although we lost contact, Margaret has always been in my thoughts and heart.

I love you mom, will miss talking with you about the family, my worries, and my children. Your advice was always timely, applicable, and wise. Your love for us was never ending and immeasurable. I know that you are fully healed and standing next to dad. Please watch over us and continue to be there throughout our lives, as our guardian angel, until we meet again.

I met your mother only a few times and was impressed. A very sweet lady and yet a very strong lady. I know the hurt in loosing a parent. I also know the joy our memories of them can bring us. Remember that she will always be with you in your hearts and thoughts.

Margaret, you will be missed. You were a caretaker of all of those souls who came in contact with you. You took care of me for many years, and you were so much a part of my story, from childhood through life. Your lessons and kindness helped guide and shape me, and I thank you for being the beautiful person that you were. RIP
