M. McAuliffe Obituary

Mc Auliffe, M. Eileen age 84 years and 10 months, died at home on November 30, 2006. She was a devoted sister of the late Dolores G., Jeremiah J. and Frank R. McAuliffe. Beloved aunt of six nieces. The daughter of a prominent Chicago Fire Department family, Eileen received a Bachelor of Arts from Rosary College in 1943, a Bachelor of Education from Northwestern University in 1956, and a Doctor of Philosophy from Northwestern University in 1966. She taught elementary education in the Chicago Public School system and special needs children at the Presbyterian St. Luke's Day School. Tireless in her efforts to promote reading, during her retirement, Eileen continued to assist her good friend Margaret Long in the classroom two days a week. The last of an extraordinary generation, she will ever be lovingly remembered. Family and friends will meet Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at Queen of All Saints Basilica, 6280 N. Sauganash Ave., Chicago, for visitation at 10 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Lung Cancer Alliance, 888 16th St., NW, Washington, D.C, 20006. Arrangements by: Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home. 773-736-3833 or www.smithcorcoran.com

Eileen cannot get over the fact that you are gone. You and Dolores were always my buddies, ‘watchin’ my back’! You both were so non-judgmental, yet had extremely strong opinions. That’s what put you a cut above the rest, the speaking of your minds, like it or not! I will miss you terribly… as I already do! Life and holidays~simply will never be as much fun, nothing will. Please keep a particularly close eye on my boys; Lord knows they need any extra graces from above!!! God bless you and keep you always close to me~love you forever…
