Louis Cohn Obituary

Cohn, Louis Joseph

Louis Joseph Cohn, founding partner of the firm of Cohn Lambert, Ryan & Schneider, has passed away on the last day of his 93rd year. Louis was born in Hyde Park, IL on October 6, 1930 to Benjamin and Jeannette Cohn. He attended Kozmensky (Hyde Park High), University of Illinois, and received his law degree at University of Chicago. He was a long term practitioner at the Illinois Workers Compensation Commission with a career that spanned 50 plus years and his knowledge and talent were widely respected. He was an educator and mentor of many and contributed greatly to the continuing success of the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education. Louis lived his life with gusto, always ready with a good (or bad) joke, to have a culinary adventure, travel to a new place, make a new friend, and always to root for the Blackhawks. At age 76, a dog named Daisy entered his life and daily walks introduced him to neighbors who became friends and watched over him as he aged. At 80, he found a new passion which brought him tremendous joy. He became an adoption counselor at PAWS Chicago, a no-kill shelter, where he assisted in adopting out approximately 900 dogs to their forever homes. The staff and the adopters provided a whole new world of affection and satisfaction for him. Louis is survived by his wife of 40 years, Pattie Kroness; his children from his first marriage, Carol (Michael Rheinheimer), Brian (Patricia), and Allen; and grandchildren, Adam Cohn, Philip (Olivia) Rheinheimer, and Andrew, Elizabeth and Nicole Terveer. A Celebration of Life will be held in May '24 at PAWS Chicago in his honor. Louis would be delighted if you would support PAWS Chicago with any donation or perhaps even adopting a needy dog or cat so they, too, can enjoy a forever home.

Very sad to hear of Lou´s passing. I worked at his law firm for 21 years. He loved that I kept a primrose that his then girlfriend Patty gave him, for almost a year until I went on vacation. Condolences to Patty and his kids.

Being an obit reader,, I was saddened to see the one attributed to my friend of over 60 years. How quickly those years went by. I figured something was not in a
when I called him about 2 weeks ago and the phones were disconnected. In any event my sympathies are with you and his kids.
