Lorraine Douglas Obituary

Mrs. Lorraine Grandpre Douglas died at home April 12, 2007. Mrs. Douglas was born Nov. 4, 1911, in Chicago, Ill.

She graduated from Austin High School in Austin, Ill., and received a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Loyola University in Chicago, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She was a graduate of the nursing program at West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, Ill. She received her master's degree in public health nursing from Peabody College in Nashville, Tenn.

During her professional career, Mrs. Douglas was the supervisor of the Newborn Nursery at West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, Ill., and worked as a public health nurse in West Virginia. She was a public school nurse for many years in the Oak Park Elementary School System, and she wrote and appeared on a television program called "All About Baby," which was broadcast daily on WGN-TV in Chicago for several seasons.

After retirement, she moved to Hemet, Calif., where she lived for 14 years. In 1997, she moved to Florence, Ala., to be near her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ambrose and Eleanor Harris Grandpre, and by her husband, Charles Francis Douglas, to whom she was married for 38 years.

A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at Ascension Parish in Oak Park, Ill., at a future date. Interment will be at Bohemian National Cemetery in Chicago, Ill.

She is survived by her son, Charles Timothy Douglas and his wife, Linda Morgan Douglas, of Marietta, Ga.; her daughter, Dr. Deborah Douglas-Brown and her husband, Dr. William Brown, of Killen, Ala.; her grandchildren, Heather Douglas Allen and her husband, Adam Allen, of Bogota, Columbia, and Charles Morgan Douglas, of Marietta, Ga. Her great-grandchildren are Chase and Blake Allen, of Bogota, Columbia. Her brother is Robert A. Grandpre who lives with his wife, Nellie Grandpre, in Huntington Beach, Calif. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to the charity of your choice.
