Loretta McCauley Obituary

Whenever I think of Mackie, I remember her calm face and loving presence. She was unfailingly pleasant and comfortable with all of the people in any room. May she rest in peace. She was a lovely lady.

I was a 5th grade student of "Mrs. McCauley" at St. Ladislaus School in Chicago in 1965. She was, without a doubt, the best grammar school teacher I had. Last January, I began research to organize my class's 50th Anniversary of our Grade School Graduation. Through the marvel of the internet, I actually found a correct telephone number for Mrs. McCauley, and last winter, I had an unexpected and wonderful conversation with her! Her voice sounded the same (maybe a tad more frail) and as far as I could tell, her mind was sharp as a tack - at least about our mutual memories. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy extended to all the members of the McCauley Family. You must be so very proud of her, not just for the familial legacy she leaves behind, but for all her students and how poignantly she touched their lives. She is truly a cherished memory.

In January of 2018, I began organizing my class's 50th Grade School Graduation Anniversary. Through the marvel of the internet, I was able to track down a correct phone number for Mrs. McCauley and I actually had an unexpected and unbelievable conversation with her last winter. Her voice was unchanged and, at least to me, she seemed as sharp as a tack. I treasure that serendipitous re-connection, and extend my sympathy to the entire McCauley family. You all must be so very proud of her and her legacy...not just the familial one, but everything she gave to so many of her students. She is a cherished memory.

My Godmother, my Aunt, my special friend. We always sent cards, talked and had a special bond. Started me on my lead soldier collecting. Ill miss you.

Loretta was, my childhood friend that has lasted for 80+ years. Even though we were miles apart she had a place in my heart now and forever. Condolences to her loving family,she will be missed.

Loretta was my sister and my friend. I loved having her in my life. We laughed together and we cried together. Traveled many miles between Detroit and Chicago for many years. I miss her but I carry her in my heart.
