Dearest Lonnie,

13 years ago today, our lives were changed in everyway. Still so many questions remain. Missing you each and everyday, while attempting to keep the pain in our hearts at bay. Songs play that remind us of you, most recently added to the list are "Knowing You" by Kenney Chesney and "Give Heaven Some Hell" by Hardy. We listen and our minds go to when you were here, the fun you had, your zest for life, how you worked hard and played hard. Unfortunately, you never got to do the Route 66 road trip you wanted so much to do. Hopefully you've made many round trips on Route 66 in the past 13 years. Please continue to keep watch, guiding the decisions and choices that are made. Our love will continue to be sent your way each and every day.

Two days ago, was eight years since you departed, the search for answers still goes on.

Yesterday was Thanksgiving Day; however we think not. Instead of thanks, we will do our best to suppress the double sorrow and sadness that's left.

You live in our hearts, our memories and when we say your name.

The way we get from day to day, is knowing when our time here is through, we will meet again. Monica gave that gift of certainty when she spoke aloud to you, Grandma & Spencer and of what she saw.

I'm not sure if you remember us... Our son, Nathan, was at Rush Hospital in December of 1979. He and Lonnie were "roommates".

Lonnie was such a sweet little boy and he loved being the "big brother" to our little Nathan. I remember him telling me that he would watch him while we went to get something to eat. Lonnie cried as hard as we did when Nathan died during his surgery. I will always remember him hugging me and he just kept saying "I'm so sorry".

Then we were invited to a gathering at your home before one of Lonnie's surgeries and it was such a pleasure to see what a fine young man he had become. Lonnie called me a few years later and we met for lunch. He asked if it would be "ok" to visit the cemetary on Nathan's 21st birthday and have a beer with him. I told him I thought that would be so very special. He gave me a copy of the article he had written about Nathan for his school paper and I treasure that so much.

I'm crying as I write this, but also feel that Nathan and Lonnie are getting to know each other again and they will be great friends in heaven.

Although we only really got to be with Lonnie those 3 time he is still a big memory in our lives.

November 23rd, as of 6 years ago, begins the most difficult stretch of time. Thanksgiving, Christmas and your Birthday are right behind.

I have so many great memories of Lonnie! This one is sitting in the baseball field, listening to Rick Springfield, drinking a bottle of pino and waiting for the sun to come up. That night you convinced me that a certain somebody never asked me to prom. lol Great Night!! 143

We all lost Lonnie way to soon, but in 39 years he lived a full life traveling, meeting people, becoming successful, and enjoying every moment like it was his last. He was very nostalgic person, he kept letters, pic, cars, and so much more to remember the times that he enjoyed with all of us. I think it would be nice to hear some of the stories / moments that everyone had with him. Lets keep his memory alive and enjoy the 39 years that we had with him. Please only write respectable stories. (We all know he had a FUN side to him.)

The days are filled with thoughts of you; the heart is where you live. You've let us know in various ways that you are around. Those moments have been the best!! We've talked, we've laughed and we've cried just like we did when we told you goodbye.
