I have known Lina for over twenty years as a collegue and acquaintence. I served three terms with her on a College committee, of which she was the Chair. She was one of the sweetest people in the College of Dentistry; I always looked foward to her cheerful and happy smile and exchanges that accompanied our encounters. As a collegue, she was a dedicated, sincere and hard working faculty member. The College will be the lesser for her absence. I offer my deepest sympathy to her family. I will miss her greatly. Dr. Tharp was a wonderful, friendly and caring person! She loved and celebrated for every Holiday Season by decorating each of her co-workers doors and I had the privilege of being two doors down from her, so she would never forget to included me in her creativity. She shared with me some words of wisdom and I know she truly loved her job. She will be missed by all here at UIC College of Dentistry (Faulty, Students and Staff Members).

Although I didn't know Lina Tharp well, we developed the casual relationship that most "office" neighbors do. Lina's office was next to mine, and we often ran into each other during the course of the day at the College of Dentistry. He was invariably cheerful and optimisitic and obviously dedicating to teaching dentistry. When I observed her with students, you could always, always tell that she enjoyed what she was doing and being where she was.

Lina was also dedicated to dentistry research and the role of women in dentistry. She was vigilent about sharing information via our list serve on news and programs that were of benefit to the entire College community. It's hard to imagine anyone filling that void.

Lina smile and personality are a loss to all of us at the College. Please accept my sincere condolences on what is a heartbreaking tragedy, but know that she did make a difference and she was much loved and will be missed.
