I had the opportunity to meet and know Sgt Smith during my tenure at the 21st District in the mid-late 70's early 80's. Smitty was always upbeat and pleasant. He was a true community servant...helped keep East 47th a viable business street. He was concerned about the have not's in the Oakland community and concentrated his community aides there. He should have been the commander of the 21st District...he truly cared about people.
May he rest in peace, Amen.

Dearest Lauren and Derian, I am so very thankful I had an opportunity to share in the life of Lewis P Smith even if it was for but a short period. I am thankful God allowed me to cross his path in life as he and I shared in stories of your precious Mother and the joy you all have brought him.

I wish I could say we were the best of friends yet, we only knew each other for a short time however, he chose ME to share warm thoughts of his family so that I can in-turn comfort you!

I think he may have seen integrity and felt "free" enough to allow me into a little of his past, present and future. With that said, we all are a little happier in this life to have encountered such a man known as Lewis P Smith.

May God continue to bless you both and we all shall keep his memory alive! Love in Christ.......Linda Andrews
