Lester Shemwell Obituary

Lester Lynn Shemwell, age 82, of Little Rock, passed away February 3, 2003. He was born September 8, 1920 to Horace and Zelpha Hill Shemwell in Higdon, Arkansas. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of WWII. He was a member of the Arkansas State Police Force for six years before joining the Little Rock Police Department. He retired from the Little Rock Police Department after 20 years of service. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Arkansas Retired Police Association. Mr. Shemwell was of the Baptist faith and an avid fisherman.

His parents and one brother, Ralph Shemwell, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Belle Shemwell, of Little Rock; one daughter, Mary Lynn Hall, of Greenville, North Carolina; two sisters, Thelma Dean Murphree, of Washington, Missouri and Connie Carroll, of Mesquite, Texas; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A Gathering in Remembrance of Mr. Shemwell will be held Friday, February 7, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth 0. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
