Leonard Kosatka Obituary

Kosatka C.P., Reverend Leonard 86, died Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, after a brief stay there. A native of Chicago (Cicero), he entered the Passionist minor seminary in Normandy, Missouri in the 1940s, which was the beginning of his years of study in preparation for his ordination to the Catholic priesthood in 1959. In 1960, he was transferred to the recently established Passionist mission in Osaka, Japan, where he studied the Japanese language. His lifelong assignment was served in Japan until his return to the United States in 2011. His ministry in Japan included being a pastor in a parish and preaching missions and retreats as well as his work in prison ministry. He undertook his vigorous ministry in the light of the Passionist effort to remind the rest of us that Jesus Christ was Himself imprisoned at the end of His life and died between two thieves. The visitation will be 10:00-10:30 a.m., Monday, August 7, 2017 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1920 Newburg Road. The funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Agnes Church, with interment at the Passionist cemetery, both in Louisville.
