We will miss Mr. Lee's presence and his beautiful smile. She had many contributions to his community, especially for a black man in the Olympics as a track and field runner in the sport world. May the love and the special memory you shared with him show just how much your life was touched by him. Words could hardly express the sorrow felt for the loss of Mr. Lee Evans. The pain of losing someone is something we never get use to. But at Isaiah 65:17, 22-24 our Heavenly Father holds out a grand promise. May your faith in His promise strengthen you as you look forward to its fulfillment.

Dear Keith and family and friends of Lee Evans,

This is Tracy Walters. We are so sorry for your loss. Lee has been an important part of our world, not only when I was coaching at San Jose, but also as a counselor at the Spokane YMCA Camp Reed. All the kids knew him as Leaping Lee Evans. Keith, you were a toddler then.

I know that you will miss Lee, but so do we. If there is anything we could do to help, let us know.

Love, Tracy and Leta Walters

To a great soul of GOD who I admired while I ran track and field through my years of elementary, junior, high schools and college. I did run the 400m. Mr. Evans just inspired my journey because of his stature, integrity, and love of the greatest sport, track and field! My heart saddened when I heard of his transition to Eternal life. A great leader, a humble man, and gallant soldier for Black people fighting injustice and racism. Our years have aged and we may not still run, yet it stays in our heart. I thank YOU FATHER GOD ALMIGHTY for Mr. "440yd/400m" Lee Evans!

I am so sad to hear that my San Jose State classmate has passed away. I'm flooded with memories at the moment and one of my most vivid personal memories stands out and that was the fact that Lee was my square dance partner in an international dance class. My waist was a fraction of the size of his thighs. Let me say, that Lee was a ton of fun through all the do-si-do's we were given. Thinking about those times always makes me smile. I got to see him race many times before and after the Olympics; that team made history in more ways than one. Rest in Peace, my old friend... my heartfelt thoughts are with family and friends.

In Memoriam, Lee Evans, 400-meter champion, thank you for sharing your earthly goodness. We indeed will miss you. Inspirationally, during the 1968 Summer Olympics, you were our light of hope by setting a world record in the 400-meter run, and human rights. “There is always light. If only we're brave enough to see it. If only we're brave enough to be it.” --- Amanda Gorman
