October 11, 2002

My dearest Mom whose full nme is Babette Roslyn Fink Simon and past her own 82nd birthday, I'm wanting to say how exceedingly glad to be your eldest daughter of nearly 57 and a half years and also the eldest daughter of your union with my Dad which lasted over 59 years and would've been 60 years on July 9, 2003.

Mere words alone can't express my own total love for the both of you in spite of the small spots of our own famiily fights we had as I was growing up from birth to childhhod, my teen years, and then moving on into adulthood followed by my own marriage for which you and Dad gave up your own celebrating of a 40th Wedding Anniversary for this specal day for both me and my own husband of over 19 years when we united our lives together on June 5, 1983.

I''m saddened by the fact that Chuck and I couldn't give the both of you any grandchilden; but, that was God's wish and plan that we didn't due to my own personal health ailments since one of my own doctors had told me there would be a very strong chance I couldnn't carry a baby to term and so I had my tubes tied. I'd wanted kids for the two of you to spoil like my Great Aunt Gertie and Great Uncle Jerome Huchberger tried to do with me since my sibling and sister Jean now of Honolulu, Hawaii (with her own speical "significant other" named Willy Ueki) was so sick as a baby and also early childhood.

I was shoked and stunned when Chuck and I got engaged that Aunt Gertie's engagement ring could be enlarged to a ring size 8 so I could wear it on my ring finger left hand and where it will stay 24/7 until God calls me home to my own eternal reward or beyond, Amen.

I love and cherish the fond memories of the one who now lives with God in Heaven (Dad) and the other who-yes, I'm "talking" here about you, Mom!-still exists here with me in Skokie and only 10 minutes away when I need you or you need me.

I was so proud and happy to be your pillar of strength when you needed me on the final and last day of Dad's existance as your husband and my Dad along with the new knowledge that I NEVER knew until you told me after Dad was gone to Heaven what Bubie had told you about his own arrival here being on the day after Yom Kippur in 1919 (October 5, 1919) and his departure from it on the day before Yom Kippur on September 14, 2002.

That special date which is now the date we both lost my Dad and your oen dear husband-Larry Simon-is the date on the calednar of a year whhich also happpened to fall on my own 37th service anniversary from Carson Pirie Scott and being the #1 in length of service at the Edens Plaza storealong with being pround of thwt fact too.

I am truly blessed by all of the love and suppport by those whom I work with over the time of Dad's one and only major illness and then passing into live eternal to the place "not made with hands" as my Eastern Star ritual says.

God bless you, Mom as I love youo very, very much and hope to do so for the years up to and beyond a century in your own iength of life ahead.

My spoecial wish for you is to hope that you live to be a centry or more in life thus making you the longest lived relative in my own immediate family!

In deepest afffection.love, Shalom and Aloha, Carol

PS: Love too from Chuck (your son in law), our three "children" (AKA the trio of parakeets)'Sunlight Bandit', 'Chilli Icicle' and'Snowy Blizzard' and also likewise all of our plush "kids" too!

PPS: This was all written from my own loving and caring heart and I DO HOPE AND PPAY that YOOU DO now understand why I'm doing this 100% unexpected letter of love to you in this specail fashion instead of telling you over the phone (on a local call on 3# and speed dial or even long distance to you!), on line via AOL or even in person!!!!!!

Babette, you probably do not remember me, but I certainly remember you. You were my teacher for 3rd, 4th and 5th grades many years ago at Boone School. You had such a positive impact on my life, I just wanted to express my sincere condolences at your loss.

Dear Babette,

You and Larry have been the greatest family a woman could have. Your selfless giving attitude gave me strength, hope, and help when I needed it the most. Larry became a big brother/father to me. I hope I can provide the love and support you will need.

Love, Carol
