Kelly Ludwig Obituary

To the Ludwig family,
A year gone by and a life time too late. I doubt this will ever be read but just in case I want to send my deepest sympathy to all of kelly's family. I am Kelly's cousin Missy (Shipp) Hawbecker.
My sister was playing around on the computer and decided to look up our cousins and to our saddness this is what was found. I hope this past year has gone well and memories helped to ease the pain.

To the Ludwig Family,
I am deeply saddened for your family's loss. I had Mr. Ludwig as a teacher at LW years ago. He was an inspiration and such a positive role model for so many of his students, including myself. My prayers are with you.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Dr. Ludwig. He was the best grad school teacher I ever had. I will miss his excitment and passion that he brought to the class each week.

We just heard about the loss of Kelly. We are so saddened by this news. We went to Loras College with Kelly and will forever remember his wonderful smile. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of his family and friends. Heaven certainly gained a great one!

I just learned of Kelly's death and I am truly sorry for you, his family. I had Kelly in class at St. Joes for Art. He was always happy and it was contagious to all those near and dear to him. He would continually come up with Art projects that were fun (like making pizza and calling it culinary art) and convince me of the connection to the subject matter.

What wonderful accomplishments he completed in his short life journey.

Dr. Ludwig was the most energetic, entertaining, and enlightening teacher I've ever had. On top of that, he helped me through the passing of a grandfather, and I will never forget that! He not only devoted his life to education, but the well-being of his students.

My condolences to the Ludwig family. Dr. Ludwig was one of my favorite teachers at LW and I was saddened to hear of his untimely passing.

Some of my fondest memories from Lincoln-Way are of Mr. Ludwig's classes. He has made an impression I will carry with me for the rest of my life. My heart goes out to his family. He was a great man.

To the entire Ludwig family,
I was truly saddened to hear of Kelly's passing. My first thought when I heard was ... that we lost such a lovely person! While I haven’t seen Kelly for a very long time, I was thrilled to read of all his accomplishments. God bless you and your families as you pass through this difficult phase.

My sister, brothers and I shared many years along side of the Ludwig boys in school, church and the in “old neighborhood”. I was shocked and saddened Kelly’s passing but Kelly’s memory will forever bring a smile to all those that knew him. The memory of his teddy bear hugs and infectious laugh have a special place in our hearts. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

To Kelly's wife, children, Kevin and Kerry, you have my deepest and sincerest sympathies. Many years ago, I considered myself a part of the Ludwig family and thought of Kelly as a brother. Even though I hadn't had the pleasure of knowing Kelly as an adult, I heard wonderful things about him as a family man and parent. Although I knew him as a young man, I was able to get a glimpse of the beautiful person he was to become. I can only hope my thoughts and prayers will give you some strength knowing we have all been blessed for knowing Kelly.

To the Ludwig Family:

My thoughts and prayers are with you at such a tragic time. Kelly was an AMAZING person to work with at Andrew and he made us all better teachers and people. He always made you feel important and was able to show you that it is okay to have fun in the teaching world. I will always remember the fun times we had. He was truly a kid at heart! From doing the sprinkler dance to launching t-shirts to the crowd at assemblies, he showed staff and students to enjoy life and have fun. He will truly be missed.

My heart is very heavy for Dr. Ludwig's family. Dr. Ludwig was my biology teacher at Lincoln-Way and was an incredibly kind and funny man. When the class of 2003 lost one of its classmates and one of Dr. Ludwig's former students, Dr. Ludwig came to his wake and supported all of us during our loss, despite not even working at Lincoln-Way anymore. He truly was invested in his students even when they left his classroom. He was an incredibly amazing teacher and I send my deepest condolences to the family.

Kelly Ludwig was the one person who had the greatest impact on my decision to study biology--he was my biology teacher at LW. Always, charismatic and funny, he made learning every aspect of biology so fascinating because of his enthusiasm. I'm nearly finished with my PhD in biology, and I know I'll take with me in my future career his love for the field. To Kelly's family: please accept my deepest sympathies--he will be greatly missed.

I went to grade school with Kelly at St.Joseph's.We hung out together all the time and will never forget his great sense of humor.Kelly was the first person to call me a "spaghetti bender"yeah you guessed right I am italian haha he always made me laugh. He will always be a fond memory to me and I will never forget all the fun times we shared as kids! I will think of you with a smile Kelly. I had Kelly as a biology teacher at Lincoln-Way, and his passion for science led me to a career as a hospice nurse. It truly breaks my heart to hear of his death. May God's peace and comfort be with his family.

To the Ludwig Family: I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Kelly. I worked with Shirley for over 20 years at the First National Bank of Lockport. I watched Kelliy grow from a teen to a fine man, husband and father. He always greeted me with a big laugh and bear hug. I will miss his quick wit and easy laughter. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time.

Kelly was my teacher for three graduate classes at Rockford College. He challenged me, he looked for the best in me, and he always made me laugh. My prayers and thoughts are with you.

I still can not believe about the loss of Kelly. I knew Kelly when we were students at Loras College. Kelly's quick wit, magnetic personality and kind smile will never be forgotten.

I am deeply sorry to hear of Kellys passing. He was such a great man and always made everyone smile. Our family grew up with his family (we lived 2 houses away). I always remember such a kind loving and happy man and heaven is having a grand party now that he is there.

My thoughts and prayers are with you as I remember a man who enriched this world with his passion for life, love of family and dedication to higher learning. My memories of Kelly are many, but his most recent trip to San Antonio and our tubing trip down a local river are most vivid. Kelly was having a hard time getiing into the inner tube...balancing beer and a cigarette was rather difficult so I gave him a good nudge to get him on his way. He laughed as I tried to gracefully exit the tube at the end of the ride and looked like a beached whale trying to do so! We laughed, enjoyed a great meal and talked about family...his favorite subject.

Debbie, Delaney and Ryan - What can I say other than I was so shocked and sorry to hear about Kelly. He was such a kind, thoughtful and generous person who was always there for you. In all this sadness a smile comes to my face and a good feeling in my heart when I think of all the great memories of Kelly; lunch in the pub, the Nut, Beenie's, Burger Express, Mulgrews, road trips, the first time he introduced us to Debbie, Homecoming, coolers spotted in church, shall I go on? He will never be forgotten. I thank god that he was a part of our lives and that you were so blessed to have such a great husband and father.

I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear Kelly passed away. Kelly was a classmate at Loras College and although it's been years since our school days I will always remember him. Kelly had a magnetic personality with a fantastic sense of humor! He was Vice President of our class who contributed a lot to make our college days extra special.
I understand he was a wonderful teacher and administrator who had a real impact on so many.

He has finished the race leaving many spectators behind, but he has given us the strenght, knowlegde, and love to continue our good fight in life...and for that he will never be forgotten!

It has come with great shock to hear that Dr. Ludwig is no longer with us. He will always be in my heart, because he has left a legacy that has touched me very deeply.

My sister and I had the 'pleasure' of attending St. Joes with the Ludwig boys...even at that young age Kelly had the ability to endear people to himself and make them laugh. Dear Debbie, Delaney and Ryan:

We don't have to tell you what a truly remarkable, loving, and brilliant man Kelly was as you all know that he was was a treasure. We grew to know and love Kelly through our children growing up together and attending our weekly basketball and volleyball sporting events with Delaney and our daughter Erin. We always looked forward to every Saturday because no matter what was on our mind that day, we knew we would feel great after spending an hour with Kelly who always made us laugh and feel good about ourselves. He was truly a devoted and christian husband, father, son, brother and friend. Many times we would sit with Shirley at the games and she would always comment on what a beautiful family Kelly and Debbie created. She adored her son, daughter in law and grandchildren and they adored her. There is nothing like the family bond that Debbie and Kelly have created and nurtured. This bond will see you through this very difficult journey in your life. Rest assured that Kelly left this world knowing how deeply loved and admired he was by all who knew him and no doubt he will be watching over each of you and will always be your guardian angel.

Your are in our thoughts and prayers. As for Kelly, he really doesn't need any prayer as he lived a very giving and faithful life. Hopefully, he will pray for us that we may be able to carry on and emulate his passion for people and life.

I remember tending bar with Kelly at a local tap in Lockport. The owner recently sold the bar, and told us to pretty much give everything away. Kelly came up with the idea of taking a empty Vodka bottle and filling it with water, and the 2 of us take turns chugging the bottle of water in front of people. It was a riot, but then Kelly went one better, he switched the bottle of water on me with a REAL bottle of vodka, well of course I chugged it ,well at least a few sips. GOOD ONE KEL! love ya,and all will truely miss you. Our prayers are with you and you family.

I was privileged to have Dr. Ludwig as a teacher two times in my high school career. He was my favorite teacher in high school and I owe a lot of the science material that I know today because of his tremendous teaching ability. Because of his anatomy/physiology class at Lincoln Way High school in 2000/2001, that is what made me what I am today. I will carry his knowledge in my daily practice of nursing. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. He is probably joking with God right now. God bless.

I am a former student of Dr. Ludwig’s from Lincoln-Way High School (00-01). As I have continued on through college and graduate school, I have never met a teacher so dedicated to his students. He was a wonderful teacher and his passing is a great loss for the field of education. I offer my deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.

Growing up with Kelly and his brothers, there are so many memories that I have of them. The best one to share was when my oldest was a toddler, he was not the best in church. One Saturday night at St. Joes, we sat right in front of Kelly and his mom. Brad was doing really well during Mass until Kelly decided to make faces at Brad and make him laugh. They kept this up until Shirley gave Kelly this look, that it even scared Brad. Till this day, we laugh about the church incident and Shirley's look. In fact I just saw Kelly at the variety show at Andrew to watch my nephew Matt Brown and we laughed about Masses at St. Joes. My sympathy to the whole family. From the moment I met Kelly, I knew that he was a kind, honest, and very genuine person with an amazing sense of humor and extreme devotion to his job and the students at Andrew High School. Kelly will surely be missed by all who knew him! I was his advisor in his doctoral program at Loyola University Chicago. He was a member of the first Bremen doctoral cohort--a group that stayed together and supported each other through their three year program (and ever since!) Every group has people that fill certain roles--the leader, the motivator, the star. Kelly had the most important role of all for our group--he was always our SMILE!

Tony and I are shocked and greatly saddened to hear of Kelly's sudden passing; our thoughts and prayers are with all of Kelly's family at this time.

Kelly could bring a smile to anyone's face (even when he was harassing me on many occasions); he was such a special part of our Loras College experience and will be forever in our memories.
